Samsung 860 Evo M 2 Sata3 Ssd Review

Whereas this 480GB Intel drive is priced at $199 (£199, AU$269), the 500GB gtx 1090 runs for $169 (£169, AU$245). Beyond that, ultimately nothing seems to be hampering the performance of the M.2 SATA drive, as it ran away with the fastest single file and file folder transfer by almost a full second in each regard. One of the first things that stuck out in our testing was the fact that the M.2 SATA version of the Samsung 860 Evo didn’t hit its maximum rated speeds in CrystalDisk Mark. this is probably because of driver issues, but we hope this is fixed in the near future. Data security – Protect data by selecting security options. The 860 EVO supports AES 256-bit hardware-based encryption and is compliant with TCG Opal and IEEE 1667.

The rear of the packaging advertises the drive’s 5-year limited warranty. Samsung’s 860 EVO Series comes with Samsung Data Migration and Samsung Magician software via download. Samsung Data Migration software allows you to easily migrate your OS and all data contained on your old system disk to your new 860 EVO with a couple of clicks. The Samsung Magician software gtx 1080 8gb is a helpful tool. Both drives share the same Samsung Magician software that you can use to perform many tasks such as firmware updates or performance tests. You can also use it to manage the SSD’s performance by adjusting the Over-provisioning and RAPID mode features. In my real-world anecdotal tests, I couldn’t see the difference between the two drives at all.

This was a problem that I found others had also experienced. Having overcome that issue, the drive performs flawlessly. When stacked against an Intel SSD 540s Series SSD (2.5-inch), Samsung comes out on top with significantly faster speeds overall, not to mention it costs less.

In our Samsung NVMe driver test using 0Fill data, the drive gets 1,670MB/s sequential read speeds, 1,537MB/s sequential write speeds, 560MB/s random 4K read speeds and 346MB/s random 4K write speeds. The Samsung 860 Pro is still the king of the SATA drives with a faster sequential read and write speed, on top of MB/s faster random read and write speeds. These will ultimately lead to faster load times, booting sequences and general file transfers, though the difference will be virtually impossible to distinguish. In fact, our testing showed small but noticeable improvements in the gtx 1090’s performance over its predecessor. Namely, there are 5-20 MB/s improvements in both sequential read and write speeds.

Additionally, we recently updated to Windows 10 Anniversary Edition and with that update, sustained write performance greatly increased. This means our previous transfer tests cannot be compared with those run on the newer version on Windows 10. This is the reason we have drive’s that differ from the rest of the review on this chart. We use DiskBench to time a 28.6GB block composed primarily of incompressible sequential and random data as it’s transferred from our DC P3700 PCIe NVME SSD to our test drive. We then read from a 6GB zip file that’s part of our 28.6GB data block to determine the test drive’s read transfer rate.

The only message you’ll get is probably the 5-year limited warranty and Samsung’s bold claim on how good their SSD is. The Samsung 860 EVO has been around for quite some time now and it is still one of the highly regarded SATA III SSD among the PC enthusiasts. UserBenchmark will test your PC and compare the results to other users with the same components.
