I don’t know of any fragrance that actually smell close to it though. Nothing to add but this is the epitome of masculine men’s fragrance. I never wore this on a regular basis in the past but I believe the recently purchased bottle I have, though true to what I remember, has the overall heft and base notes dialed back. It still lasts well and seems more versatile now to me. Redolent of pine trees and stale cigarette butts.

Light pine, light tobacco, light oakmoss, light leather, Chypre style. Either the bottle now is diluted or my memory has diluted. Either way, I do enjoy it now but wish it can be the strong green beast-like in my memory. Polo jeans clothing often features a logo of a polo player on a horse.

It’s really powerful, I tested 4 different fragrances on different areas today and I can only smell Polo , I wish I didn’t bought the 240ml bottle, I’ll have enough for at least 3 lifetimes. I think if you are over 30 this is great, in my case it definitely gives me a good throwback in my childhood when I spray it. I’m not sure what the perfumer originally intended to evoke with this scent but in the light of typical colognes these days I smell a pipe smoking hairy lumberjack. Not a pansy rich polo player with palm olive hands. Kinda makes me wish I was in high school in the early 80s when this was a normal everyday scent.

Every colleague he’s worked with or student he has taught forever associates him with the scent that remains long after he has left the room. Despite the reformulations through the years and new Polo flankers he insists on his green bottle that to him represents the ultimate man’s man, the ideal gentleman in every sense of the word. You need to be an old school manly man to wear this. I actually find the smell offensive, and I don’t like it, which is exactly the desired effect I think.
