Been wearing this fragrance for 20 years now and will always have a bottle in my collection. Absolute classic real mans fragrance strong and masculine love it. I keep it because I love the bottle and the memories, but I wouldn’t (and couldn’t) wear it anymore.
It was Lauren’s introduction of softer, more comfortable fabrics at a time when Americans had the money and the time to enjoy out-of-work activities that made his name synonymous with American leisure. A champion of smart-casual, every rake who both appreciates his history and knows how to enjoy the present should have some Ralph Lauren staples in his wardrobe. The first Ralph Lauren fragrances, produced by Warner-Lauren, Ltd. were launched at Bloomingdale’s in March 1978. Lauren, a fragrance for women, on March 12 and Polo, cologne for men, on March 26.
With that much detail into something so small, you can see how the brand cares about every little aspect of your Polo shirt. Classic fit polos provide polo dress shirts the roomiest fit for a relaxed and comfortable style. Since the 70s, we have added new styles including the signature men’s slim fit polo shirts.
I do get the basil and drop of gin in the opening too mind, but overall it’s a leather and pine binge. I would suggest this for the mature man, 40’s and up. You won’t be getting huge compliments, as a matter of fact the opposite. This is a mature man’s polo dress shirts scent and should be worn for personal enjoyment. There will be the occasional person who finds this appealing as you wear it but don’t count on most people to like it. I have decided this will be my signature scent when I get into my late 40’s.
It has amazing projection and lasts all day. I first smelled this on my friend who wore a Chaps Ralph Lauren brown leather jacket. It is burned in my memory as having a relation to leather, yet the green notes of pine seem to dominate this wonderful scent. I will always have Polo in my collection, even if I decided to shrink it down to only 10 fragrances.
When it dries down to the its basenotes, the pine gives off a damp sweetness. I never knew anybody in my background who wore Polo. My only childhood association was a teacher who reminisced that men splashed it on polo dress shirts at the gym. I became acquainted with it when I began selling fragrances at a department store and let me tell you, I sold a lot of Polo. We called it Polo green and when we broke a bottle the whole store knew.
