Smelling this for the first time was like meeting someone and feeling you had known them your whole life. This resonated with me far more than any other fragrance and I now have almost polo dress shirts 50. This is No.1 and only the original Givenchy Gentleman comes remotely close. Givenchy Gentleman got me into fragrance collecting, but Polo has turned me into a fragrance youtuber.
Not saying similar but it takes you on a journey. I’ll admit I don’t like the first phase of this that much and putting your nose right up to where it’s sprayed isn’t pleasant, it’s the cloud ralph lauren t shirt it surrounds you in that makes people take notice. It’s not a timeless scent, it is a very specific to its time scent, and that time is gone . This said, I would never ever wear this.
This bottle and scent helped shape me as a man. It made me want more out of my life. 30 years later and I’m still chasing that feeling I get when I think of the old Ralph Lauren stores, the ads, Ralph’s homes, etc. I would take this bottle with me to my grave and bury me with it. 6 out of 5 scent when you remind yourself that this was when things were really good and perfume houses were in their ascendancy. Polo tried hard to add flankers, red, blue, that weird orange one.
There will be the occasional person who finds this appealing as you wear it but don’t count on most people to like it. I have decided this will be my signature scent when I get into my late 40’s. I have great love for Polo and it will remain in my collection for life.
This is the most ubiquitous fragrances on older men in America, especially the South. Much like my elders, I respect it, but I’d rather spend my time and money on any other piece of my collection. This is one of the few fragrances that I can smell in public and undoubtedly know polo dress shirts exactly what the man is wearing. I prefer this oldie more then the new popular fragrences of today. It’s a classic and it’s for a real man not a teeny weeny. If you want to smell like a real man wear this and if you don’t want to smell like a man wear what’s available today.
