Samsung 860 Evo 1tb Sata Iii Ssd Review

Get fast, enduring performance with exceptional reliability and expanded compatibility. These SSD’s are great products however installation with Windows10 can be very frustrating. The current Data Migration software almost always reaches 99% only to fail.

The 860 Evo’s average power draw varies by capacity and ranges from 2.2 W to 3 W , but maximum power draw is 4 W across all capacities. That is not to say that this drive is not suitable for a home, office or gaming PC. If your only option is the SATA interface, then the Samsung 860 EVO is one of the most attractive drives in terms of price/performance as of 2018.

It is compatible, however it is recommended to use the Pro model instead because of the amount of read/writes. We strive to offer our customers the easiest, most seamless shopping experience every day—using the latest technology and security measures. Unfortunately, your browser doesn’t support these improvements. Particularly passionate about PC hardware and can be seen in front of the test bench most of the time.

The 860 Evo shares the same controller and the amount of DDR 4 cache memory as the 860 Pro. It’s also available in similar capacities, ranging from 250 GB to 4 TB. The 870 EVO is also slightly quicker than the 860 EVO at maximum sequential writing speed.

PCMark 8 is the most intensive moderate workload simulation we run. With respect to moderate workloads, this test is what we consider the best indicator of a drive’s overall performance. With a partition on the drive and 75% full, we are not quite able to hit factory max random write specs.

Compared to its previous version, the 860 EVO is rated for up to eight times more TBW for boosted endurance. Download Samsung’s Smart Magician software to track your drive’s health, performance, and install new updates. The new drive is apparently so fast that it can actually reach the maximum possible speed for sequential read and write on a SATA drive, with 560MB/s read and 530MB/s write speeds.

Next we looked at our VDI benchmarks that tax the drives a bit more; these tests include Boot, Initial Login, and Monday Login. For the Boot test, the gtx 1080 8gb again showed performance well below expectations. The EVO started above sub-millisecond latency performance and quickly peaked at 2,316 IOPS with a latency of 3.11ms. The 860 PRO ran below 1ms latency until 27K IOPS and peaked at 29,869 IOPS with a latency of 2.17ms. Sequential 64K write gave another weak performance by the 860 EVO.

Sticking with my Samsung 960 EVO Series 1TB too , crazy fast , but the 860 is another solid release from Samsung , best on the market in terms of reliability. In some instances, you can even delete all the data with the secure erase function from inside the operating system. But that’s only if the stars align and you boot from a different drive. The list of criteria for that process to work keeps getting longer. You can also use Magician to build a bootable thumb drive to reach the same conclusion. Unfortunately, it just takes more steps and complicates the process.
