Polo Ralph Lauren Cologne

Probably the most classic and the most masculine of all men’s fragrances. I’m only surprised that according to the pyramid, the pine needle and leather notes are in the mid-section, as I feel as though I get a blast of them instantly. That combination, to my nose, are what this perfume is all about – super-fresh pine modified by a soothing, rich brown leather.

It is one of my favorites, and what I think of when I heard the term cologne. I just never really have a good chance to wear it, and can’t think of any good situations that Polo would fit. Who could have imagined that a lighthearted bet would morph into a men’s classic? In 1977, a young Ralph Lauren was challenged by his sensei, Lei Kazuma Kiryuu, to produce a fragrance that would transport the wearer to the men’s room of a Shaolin temple. Will be appreciated by people with classic tastes. it is very classy , slightly offensive but it makes you feel that you are very rich because of the tobacco notes. I like it soo much .It is one of the top 5 of more than 200+ perfumes I have smelled. I’m apprehensive about bashing this one (but I will- it’s forthcoming) because it’s such a well loved classic. It comes from a different era when fragrances were bolder and you got more bang for your buck. But I gotta tell ya, this stuff is polarizing!

It’s very green, very Polo Ralph Lauren t shirt woody, and there’s a heaping helping of leather and tobacco hanging out very presently to support those green notes. Like other reviewers said, it really smells like money, not the newer bills made of plastic (I’m Canadian, I don’t know how us bills are nowadays) but the old ones made of paper, like a big stack of it.

They set the perfect start of a casual look. You’ll need a few Oxford shirts as well. Solids are good, but be sure to pick up a few stripes as well. Never mind the country club image here folks, Polo, because this isn’t gentlemanly games on the Chelsea commons of West London circa 1910. This fragrance is brutal, earthy, dark and danky pine woods like the ones that used to cover all of Northern Europe before the 12th century.

A sharp, bitter synthetic “green” fragrance that’s more dated than Burt Reynolds’ mustache. This is the most ubiquitous fragrances on older men in America, especially the South. Much like my elders, I respect it, but I’d rather spend my time and money on any other piece of my collection. This is one of the few fragrances that I can smell in public and undoubtedly know exactly what the man is wearing.

I only wear this around the house occasionally in the fall and winter months because I love the smell. This is my wife’s favorite of all my fragrances and will always have a place in my collection.
