With small babies the harness may be too high and leave too much space in the hip and crotch area. This is common with a lot of convertible seats, so for a preemie or small newborn you’re better off going with an infant car seat to start. Rear-facing can only be used in positions 1 – 4.
It’s on the expensive side, considering you’ll need to buy another car seat once you switch to forward-facing. We have this car seat for a little over a year, and I have not liked it since we started using it. Its almost impossible to tighten the straps to where the child is secure. I have to pull the straps from the back and then pull tightening strap to make it tight.
The chair itself is sturdy, without being bulky.
