I love Polo, but I would not consider this a very safe or crowd pleasing scent. This was what my dad wore when I was a kid. I associate it with my dad which is why it feels like an ‘old’ fragrance, but it definitely is dated regardless of that association. I feel limited wearing this as a lot of people I come into contact with don’t like it. Friends that have smelled it often have a face of disgust and say that it smells like a grandpa, or that it is strong, but I rarely have experienced someone actually liking it.

This scent is soo good and takes me back. Every time I spray it, I think of my friend, and playing with our Star Wars figures back in the day, which is nice. Everyone needs a few anchor-points back to their young and carefree days, and funnily enough, Polo Green has become one of mine from a memory I will always look back on with a smile. My poor ERG forever stunk of Polo Green after that, the smell literally never vanished! Back in the day this stuff was a whole forest crushed and compressed into liquid form and then crammed into a bottle! My uncles signature for over 30 years.
I started wearing this amazing scent in college in the early 80’s. It was my only fragrance for 30 years. I have gone through so many bottles, I have lost count. The Warner bottles were the best fragrance ever made. Every time I purchased a bottle, I would be gifted Polo bags and other gifts .
I want to look like this, I want to smell like this, I want more plaid in my life, and I need a better haircut. Must have been 1989 or so I started stealing sprays from my older brother. Like dozens and dozens of men my age, this scent was what got me into men’s fragrance.
It was the only fragrance I wore until 1994 when my girlfriend bought me Dolce and Gabbana Pour Homme. I quite enjoyed it—and man has it changed too— but it took a backseat to Polo Green. I wore Polo for about 20 years but it just kept going through reformulations and it is now a watered down, quality stripped shell of the original. It’s Polo, but a cheap imitation of it. It lost that something special, those truly rich and deep notes.

Yes it is potent, but that is the point. The virility expressed through potency in this cologne is matched by the uber masculine green-oakmoss accord. I really don’t know about the reformulation. The bottle polo dress shirts I have is recent and superb. Let me put it this way, if it is reformulated just think of it as a new perfume and it would stand head and shoulders above any new release or any of the new Tom Ford Fougeres.
