Attention Required!

Obviously it doesn’t, and the visual splendour of that 1996 movie proves how we beneficial ray tracing can be when generating realistic computer graphics. Whenever word gets around that there is a new flagship graphics card in the offing, everyone gets a bit excited. Nvidia’s new high-end graphics cards are the GeForce RTX 2070, RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti, the company announced today during a pre-Gamescom 2018 livestream from Cologne, Germany. At present, GDDR6 runs approximately a 20% higher BOM cost than GDDR5, but that cost will drop over time. GDDR6 allows for minimally 14Gbps per pin throughput on the RTX 2080 and 2080 Ti, a noteworthy boost over the 8Gbps and 10Gbps throughput on previous generations.

The RTX designation was first seen on Monday when NVIDIA unveiled its new Quadro RTX lineup at SIGGRAPH. A big focus of the company’s presentation was gtx 1090 its new ray tracing acceleration technology. It appears that this advancement will be making its way to the consumer gaming GPU lineup as well.

The Lenovo Legion Y545 is an entry-level gaming laptop that under promises and over-delivers. The laptop’s discrete Nvidia graphics chip serves up a surprising amount of power, with above-average results. And when you’re not gaming, the laptop’s Core i7 processor is more than capable gtx 1080 8gb of allowing you to create spreadsheets, do some light video-editing and, of course, watch some movies on that beautiful 1080p display. We didn’t think Asus could improve on the excellent ROG Zephyrus G14, which easily earned a spot on our best gaming laptops page, but we were wrong.

The 4K performance is improved over its Pascal architecture-based predecessor, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, with its support for Scalable Link Interface . In a demo of Doom Eternal, the two cards were pitted against each other, and the RTX 3080 was around 50 percent faster than the RTX 2080 Ti. At 4K resolution and all settings maxed out, it ran the game at more than 100 frames per second most of the time, which is massively fast for a title where there’s a lot of stuff happening on screen. Nvidia produces a reference RTX 2080 Ti board design that it sells to its partner companies. Those companies, such as EVGA, MSI, PNY, and Zotac, modify the reference card with their own power and cooling solutions, sometimes adding extra features into the mix.

Intel has recently unveiled its 11th Gen H-Series chips, stay tuned for refreshes of some of our favorite gaming laptops as well as a few new entrants. But most of all, gaming laptops are great for dedicated gamers with mobile lifestyles or looking to save more space than a desktop could. The gamut ranges from college students hoping to play anywhere on campus to businesspeople who want to play during a commute. Whatever you have planned for your machine, there are a lot of intricacies to mobile PC gaming, so it helps to do your research. But with so many laptops to choose from, things can get pretty complicated.

That’s something you can already do with existing cards, but the 2080 gives you a lot more headroom for better settings today and more challenging games in the future. Our brief tests of the DLSS demo showed potential for some of the performance gains it could bring, but you shouldn’t spend cash on a card and hope it will get better in time. Nvidia assures us it won’t be long before 25 games will support DLSS, and at least 11 will have ray tracing in the coming months. The NVIDIA GeForce gigabyte gtx 1060 3gb GPU is based on NVIDIA’s Turing architecture, which brings real-time ray tracing and AI-powered DLSS 2.0 to creators and gamers.

You can spend a lot of time delving into specs, but here are the key components to think about. If you just want really good mainstream performance, go for a Core i5 CPU, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD and a 1080p screen. From there, you have the 17.3-inch desktop replacements that like their smaller counterparts are becoming super svelte. However, weighing upwards of 8 pounds, those big boys are made for your home gaming station. When we bring a laptop into our laboratory, our goal is to see how it would work if you brought it into your home or office. While we use a number of industry standard benchmarks such as Geekbench and 3DMark, we focus heavily on real-world tests that we have developed in-house.

Unigine started to crash once I attempted to push the GPU overclock further. Strangely, I encountered no issues cranking up the memory overclock so high, and could have potentially pushed it even more, but I was restricted by time constraints. Topping off the tests, I ran 3DMark’s Fire Strike Ultra benchmark programme. This software is really useful for spitting out benchmark scores that can then be compared against different hardware setups due to its widespread popularity and use. With so much action happening at once, those ultra-smooth frame rates could be very useful for massive real-time strategy games in 4K. While the above two titles are two of the most graphically demanding games available, I decided to test the GTX 2080 with a slightly older game that won’t abuse the GPU like a slap-happy jockey.

One NVLink connector is all that’s required for SLI to work; you’d need a second one only if you wanted to do 8K Surround output. The connector is hidden under a cap on the top edge of the card, near the backplane. The RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition’s silver-and-black cooling system gives it a sleek appearance.

The new RTX 2080 and 2080 Ti ship with reference cards first, and partner cards largely at the same time (with some more advanced models coming 1+ month later), depending on which partner it is. The board partners did not receive pricing or even card naming until around the same time as media, so expect delays in custom solutions. Note that we were originally hearing a 1-3 month latency on partner cards, but that looks to be only for advanced models that are just now entering production. The RTX 2080 Ti churned out a very impressive 8047, which is significantly higher than both the 1080 Ti and 1080 benchmark scores of 6646 and 5080 respectively. The RTX 2080 Ti is easily the most powerful graphics card that I’ve ever tested.
