Geforce® Rtx 2080ti Series

Pascal debuted in the first half of 2016, marking an unusually long amount of time since a new architecture to play with has emerged. AMD made some headway during that time, releasing itsRadeon Vega 64in the second half of 2017. However, AMD didn’t release a card that competed on the next performance gtx 1090 tier and, as mentioned, nor has AMD released its RTX 20-series competitor. In October 2018, PC Gamer reported the supply of the 2080 Ti card was “extremely tight” after availability had already been delayed. By November 2018, MSI was offering nine different RTX 2080-based graphics cards.

The Turing architecture has some genuinely impressive changes, and Nvidia still has very little competition from AMD in this range of high-end graphics cards. If you’re considering a high-end graphics card right now, you’ll probably be looking exclusively at something from Nvidia, so the company is just competing with itself until AMD catches up. After the initial release, factory overclocked versions were released in the fall of 2018. The first was the “Ti” edition, while the Founders Edition cards were overclocked by default and had a three-year warranty.

Given the steep price premium of $400 between the two cards, you may be better served by spending the difference in cost in upgrading your SSD or system RAM, or even going springing for a previous-gen GTX 1080 or Ti. That is, at least until more ray tracing games launch to justify this investment. Ray tracing and AI-enabled rendering may be the future, but that future isn’t quite here yet. The new NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPUs have reinvented graphics and set a new bar for performance. Powered by the new NVIDIA Turing GPU architecture and the revolutionary NVIDIA RTX platform, the new graphics cards bring together real-time ray tracing, artificial intelligence, and programmable shading.

With this generation of cards, though, Nvidia is directly competing in that market by selling its Founders Edition cards to consumers, with these cards actually upticked from its reference design. Turing doesn’t bring significant increases in core clock, but the fast GDDR6 memory on the RTX 2080 Ti should come in handy for high-resolution 4K gaming. The memory bus width (352-bit) and the amount of memory is the same on both cards.

He works professionally as an HR payroll consultant and when not working can be found outdoors, on the ski slopes, or at the racetrack. From a pure price-to-performance standpoint versus the $799 RTX 2080 Founders Edition, it’s not. But rarely will you find a top-tier product that doesn’t require you to fork over extra for the prestige that comes with having the best.

Without any ray tracing or DLSS features, the investigation showed Shadow of the Tomb Raider to prefer the RTX 2080 Ti at 1080p and 1440p, with clear leads for the older card. Even with DLSS and ray tracing enabled at 4K the RTX 2080 Ti still had a commanding lead. Still a clear win overall for the RTX 3070, though, given it costs a third of the price. While Nvidia boss Jensen Huang said that the RTX family of GPUs would start at $499 for the RTX 2070, $699 for the 2080, and $999 for the 2080 Ti, you can’t really pay those prices at the moment. Nvidia is justifying this by primarily selling the Founder’s Edition version of the cards that come overclocked out of the box for the first time ever. Sit down, find your beverage of choice, and let’s go on a journey of discovery to find out if the efforts in implementing tomorrows technology bring benefits to the games of today. The 2070 is not a linear line from the 1070 in price — it’s closer to a 1080, and the 2080 Ti has replaced a Titan X-class card in pricing. With market dominance, and with the biggest high-end competition being Pascal, this is sensible, if not what we wanted to see.
