Nvidia Rtx 2070, Rtx 2080, Rtx 2080 Ti Gpus Revealed

This thing smokes its predecessors and the devices available from AMD at the moment. It also does just fine in older games like Rise of the Tomb Raider, and it handily gives you more frames than you’d know what to do with in less demanding games live Civilization VI and Overwatch. Far Cry 5 is less demanding than Tomb Raider, and it runs a lot better at max settings, averaging around 81 fps on my GTX 1080 and 96 fps on the RTX 2080. The gigabyte gtx 1060 3gb pushes this to 113 fps, which is a nice sweet spot for the high-refresh capabilities of this monitor. PUBG also performs far better on the RTX 2080 Ti, averaging around 125 fps compared to the 80 fps I’m used to from the GTX 1080.

Unsurprisingly, the RTX 2080 Ti is also the best consumer graphics cards for all-round performance. Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2080 Founders Edition trades performance blows with an overclocked GTX 1080 Ti, but offers the promise of ray tracing and AI-enhanced games for $100 more. It’s joined by a single HDMI 2.0b port, and dual DisplayPort 1.4 connections that are ready for DisplayPort 1.4a in the future.

The test bench comprises the fastest mainstream Intel CPU of the moment, theIntel Core i7-8700K, 16GB of DDR4 memory from G.Skill, and a solid-state boot drive. A Ferrari among gaming GPUs, Nvidia’s GeForce Founders Edition represents the fastest class of cards that money can buy. Just be ready to pay a supercar price to enjoy its luxury ride for 4K and high-refresh gaming.

The Turing architecture has some genuinely impressive changes, and Nvidia still has very little competition from AMD in this range of high-end graphics cards. If you’re considering a high-end graphics card right now, you’ll probably be looking exclusively at something from Nvidia, so the company is just competing with itself until AMD catches up. After the initial release, factory overclocked versions were released in the fall of 2018. The first was the “Ti” edition, while the Founders Edition cards were overclocked by default and had a three-year warranty.

Given that there are no game available right now with ray tracing, we’re not able to get benchmark results for these cards. Once ray tracing hits, we can likely expect better performance in how light is rendered in real-time a scene with the RTX 2080 Ti due to its stronger hardware specs. The main difference between these two cards is in the number of dedicated Cuda, Tensor, and RT Cores. The Ti’s more densely packed cores gives it a performance advantage under some tests.

Nvidia announced a real-time ray tracing technology that it refers to as Nvidia RTX — hence the new naming scheme for the company’s upcoming GPUs — during the 2018 Game Developers Conference in March. Ray tracing is the standard for applications such as visual effects in the film industry, but it is extremely computationally intensive, which has meant that — at least until now — it has been impractical for gaming. In addition to real-time ray tracing, Nvidia’s RTX platform incorporates two existing technologies, programmable shaders and artificial intelligence. Since initially publishing my review last October, subsequent Nvidia Game Ready driver updates have been rolled out, to the point where first person shooters Battlefield 5 and Metro Exodusnow support ray tracing and DLSS. More titles will support these features in the future, but right now, it’s these two games that are flying the ray tracing flag. The GeForce RTX 2080 and 2080 Ti Founders Edition cards come overclocked out of the box.

Given the steep price premium of $400 between the two cards, you may be better served by spending the difference in cost in upgrading your SSD or system RAM, or even going springing for a previous-gen GTX 1080 or Ti. That is, at least until more ray tracing games launch to justify this investment. Ray tracing and AI-enabled rendering may be the future, but that future isn’t quite here yet. The new NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPUs have reinvented graphics and set a new bar for performance. Powered by the new NVIDIA Turing GPU architecture and the revolutionary NVIDIA RTX platform, the new graphics cards bring together real-time ray tracing, artificial intelligence, and programmable shading.

None of the games we tested were able to hit an average or peak fps value near the native refresh rate of the Acer X27 monitor; the technology just isn’t there yet. All the games are running at ‘maximum’ quality, within reason—meaning, I didn’t use super-sampling or any resolution scaling. I did enable all the advanced graphics settings in GTA5, however, and HBAO+ under the post-processing settings in The Witcher 3. I’ve also tested with HDR output enabled in the five games that support it, though testing with HDR modes was limited to the RTX 2080 Ti for now . Several games use more than 8GB VRAM at the tested settings, which will seriously punish older cards with 4GB or less memory.

Photo and video editors will benefit from the Aero 15’s color-accurate 4K panel, but they’ll also enjoy the pleasures of diving into one of their favorite triple-A titles after a long day of work. Sporting a new color, the Razer Blade 15 is one of the lightest and best gaming laptops on the market. The notebook has a 99.9-watt hour battery, which is the largest battery the TSA will allow aboard a plane. The laptop also dominated on our gaming and overall performance thanks to the system’s 10th Gen Intel Core i7 processor and an Nvidia GeForce 2080 Super Max-Q GPU. The MSI GS66 Stealth is one of the company’s slimmest gaming laptops to date. Those powerful specs allow the laptop to go toe-to-toe with its main competitors on both the gaming and multitasking fronts.
