My advice, you can run a 1×2 through on each side, at the same time, to truly see paralleladiggity to the platen. If you happen to hit a nail and create a nasty nick in your blade, this means you only have to replace one small insert instead of an entire blade. This makes it much cheaper to use inserts in the long run than standard blades. However, as you can see from the images, the DW735 has quite a different design.
When a proper planer is $3000 you shouldn’t cry about a $500 cheap planer. It will be a long time before you purchase enough blades to make up the difference. I would say you gave it a fair review in your eyes, and that is a good thing.
