I am sure that it is a good product, it is still in the box but when i do get to use it i am sure that it will preform well & it will get a work out.

I don’t buy a 1/2 ton truck when I need a 1 ton truck, what you experienced was a hobbyist grade piece of equipment ware out quickly doing probably pro level work. If you bought a 209HH you wouldn’t have to write a long review like this one. My point is I knew what I was going to do when I bought my truck 13 years ago, it still works fine. I bought my joiner its a 8″ PJ-882HH which is a phenomenal piece of equipment.

The extra set of planer knifes that comes with the DW735X are also extra helpful as you can quickly swap out the old knives when they get dull and replace them with the new knifes. While the DW735 is just the planer machine without the infeed and outfeed tables and the extra planer knifes. The only difference between the DW735X and the DW735 is that the DW735X comes with infield and outfeed tables for the planer, and an extra set of planer knives for the cutterhead. One thing that DeWalt has done with the DW735 is add a built in blower for clearing wood shavings from the blades. It has a surprising amount air flow, and if used without some type of dust collector, it will shoot wood shavings everywhere. It does a wonderful job at keeping dust and shavings from building up on the blades, thus lengthening their life.

I would definitely recommend this planer to anyone serious about their wood. Portable thickness planers have to squeeze a lot of power into a small footprint that can be reasonably moved around a shop or to a job site. But even within this limitation there are some substantial differences in size and weight of the machines we’ve tested. But every machine is capable of planing boards 12 to 13 inches wide and 6 inches tall. The specifics and the differences are show in the lists below. The big chip on this planer blade was caused by a hidden nail embedded in a board.

Automatic carriage lock reduces the movement that causes snipe without the need for manual engagement by the user. Last week I was running some walnut thru my 735 and it came upon some wonky grain and dewalt tools bogged down and shut off. I let it cool down and pushed the reset circuit breaker ( and that’s what it is called). I found out that the 18 amp breaker becomes weaker and weaker, each time it trips.

All planers use many small bolts to secure blades, and losing just one means you won’t be able to use your planer until you get a replacement from the manufacturer. Avoid unnecessary hassles and frustrations by using a rare earth magnet to hold all knife bolts together in one clump after you take them out. This is the first and most important maintenance issue.

You won’t want to use any solvents to clean the rollers on the planer. It could damage or cause the material to deteriorate. I believe that is a right hand nut and you need a small 3/8″ impact to remove it.Hope that helps.Good luck.

Just above the feed opening is a gauge that shows how much wood is being removed. After starting with more than 200 power tools and hundreds more accessories, they also offered hand tools for contractors by 2011. The DW735 is more obviously geared towards the more serious wood workers. This is why they don’t include the infeed and outfeed tables in the package.

I haven’t had to try and have the knives resharpened. The sharpening services I have used don’t get blades as sharp as I would with sandpaper and glass. I’ve run 12 inches of stuff like purpleheart through it and it does bog down and cause some tearout. But like emart said, that’s to be expected in a lunchbox planer. I have the same planer and still have the original box.

I love this setup and highly recommend it for anyone who is looking for a decent planer setup and has the room. Either build or find a dresser shaped piece of furniture. This allows a perfect shaped top surface for the planer to be secured to and do it’s dewalt Hand tools work. And also, because there are drawers below it’s a great way to utilize storage space in the shop. It also has a four carriage column carriage lock that reduces sniping by drastically reducing the amount of movement that can cause material damage.
