Dewalt Dw735 Review
It’s very easy to make small depth changes because of the oversize hand wheel. The DeWalt DW735 comes with a handy Allen wrench that you use for loosening the screws for the plastic cover of the cutter head and the blades themselves. Also, we thought it was kind of cool that the Allen wrench includes a couple of magnets on the handle dewalt accessories for easy removal of the blades. Upon first receiving the DeWalt DW735 Planer we noticed that not only was the box pretty large, it was also heavy. Most benchtop planers have some heft to them, however, the DW735 weighs in at 92 pounds. That realization prompted us to quickly build a rolling base for the planer to stand on.
This operation won’t make dull blades sharp, but it will reduce the amount of sanding you need to complete later on planed pieces of wood with ridges. Thickness planers are more maintenance-dependent than a tablesaw, jointer or drill press. And though the work of keeping a planer functioning well isn’t difficult or time consuming, it is necessary. You’ve got to do it to avoid boards that stick, get gouged and come out with less than smooth surfaces. DeWalt offers a 3-year limited warranty that does not apply to accessories or damage caused where repairs have been made or attempted by others.
The planer generates a lot of large shavings, and a vac will fill up fast! Without a vacuum attached, the dust-hood exhaust port shoots out a very large debris field to clean up. With an aggressive cut, shavings can quickly clog the port. We are experimenting with a cyclonic dust collector with 5-gallon waste bucket, and have had positive results so far, even with mismatched hoses. The handle is ergonomically designed and easy to grasp. You even get a kickstand so you can rest the planer on the work surface without damaging the material.

These knives have two ground edges and measure 13″ x 7/8″ x 5/64″ . Three knives are included in the set.
Even worse, the numbers on the display are very small and thin making it difficult to read unless I get down directly in front of it. I bought the Planar Digital with great expectations as my other instruments from iGaging have been great. I already had the Wixey Digital Readout but wanted to replace it because I had such a positive experience with iGaging in the past. The edges of the Planar Digital are sharp and I scraped my arm several times.
After all, peer reviews are a critical part of any scientific process. There may be planers as good in this size category, but you’d be hard-pressed to convince me that there are any that are better. And if my informal sampling of woodworking YouTubers is at all accurate, there are quite a few pros out there who would agree. First remove your shroud then remove the housing clips and screws.
