Dewalt Dw735 Planer Review

It’s intended to keep pressure of the board to the rollers and reduce snipe. You might check to see if that’s correct as it’s likely true for the 735x as well. We tested how much material would be ‘lost’ to snipe. We had already adjusted each planer’s tables to be flat, and level to the planer bed, prior to the snipe test. We wanted to know how each machine performed at maximum loads .

Everything about the build quality of this planer ensures that you are going to get the results you are looking for. The sturdiness of this planer is such that you can handle almost anything. The build quality also highlights how easy it is to use this thing. The dust port is located at the rear of the unit above the outfeed opening of the planer. The location of the dust port is one of the very few complaints I have about the DW735.

DEWALT makes lots of great tools and I seldom find issues with any of them. In this situation they have an AMAZING tool with the DW735 Thickness Planer. In fact, I would say it’s one of the best overall performing tools that I’ve ever reviewed. I also have the dewalt accessories DW7350 – Mobile Thickness Planer Stand. The stand is also built from high quality materials and rivals any of the mobile stands I own. In fact, if you’re going to put this on a stand I recommend you buy the DEWALT version compared to an after-market version.

All the comments about noise- apparently the thing to do is get a shelix cutter head that more or less drops in… I plan to for next project. Extra-large turret depth stop allows users to return to most frequently used thicknesses with ease. I removed the top shroud to get to the switch and circuit breaker. I’m wondering if I couldn’t depress the micro switch manually and see if it is getting power to the off/on switch. A planer is definitely on my short list of bigger purchases, that and a bandsaw. The DeWalt ones sure seem to be a great bang for bucj option, and you can usually get blades and any big boz or local hardware store, so that is a big plus.

The nice thing here is the snipe should be predictable for each model and allow users to plan accordingly. Users of the DEWALT DW735X will ultimately “waste” more material over the life of the planer. However, with all the planers having relatively the same amount of snipe we’re not ranking this category either but rather letting you see how they all compared. We looked at how level the infeed and outfeed tables were, we adjusted them, and noted how easy or difficult the process was. There are workarounds for planers with persistent snipe.

We try to keep the shop footprints of our tools low, so we use portable saws and benchtop tools that can be put out of the way when they’re not in use. A large, heavy planer would have been great, though expensive, and would have taken up a lot of room for the few planer jobs that we need to do. Hand-planing the planks was also out of the question, so we researched benchtop planers and decided the DeWaltDW734 would meet our requirements.

I have had those trip like an overloaded circuit breaker before. The only problem I experienced with this planer is when I was using it outside in the cold. I found the roller didn’t do a very good job about pulling the wood through. Not that it was a big deal, but it is something to note.

I don’t believe I want a piece of equipment made by woodworkers, just the same as I don’t want to work with metal. That’s akin to doing auto work yourself when you know you need to take it to a mechanic. Two speed gear box allows users to change feed speed to optimizing cuts per inch at 96 or 179 CPI.

My older Delta is a pain when it comes to changing knives also. I would like to have a 735 but they are pretty expensive compared to the 734. It doesn’t have enough preset settings for thickness. I would have liked a 5/8” setting and possibly a 7/8” setting. You have become my Consumer Report for woodworking tools.
