Dewalt Dw735 Woodtop Planer Review

For BARBASHELA’s planks we wanted to remove just over a 1/16″ from the rough-sawn boards to reach the target thickness and that required several passes per plank. We set up to remove 1/64″ per pass to reduce the load on the feed rollers and found that the 15-amp, 20,000-rpm motor was up to the task. The 734 has powerful feed rollers and provides 33-1/2″ of support from the infeed and outfeed tables, so it can handle 6′ to 8′ boards. For the 16’ and longer planks we helped push and pull the stock through. An alternative to using power wood planers is using hand planes. The skill required to properly dimension wood with a hand plane takes time to master.

Small, hand-held units are not expensive, but they can save you from ruining an otherwise great set of blades and the time taken to change them. Even a small fragment of a nail, screw or bit of barbed wire that a fence-row tree grew around will cause a huge amount of damage to any blade that hits them. The mess you see here was caused by the hidden shank of a rusty deck screw. Keep a rag in the wax can, and the can near the planer. At the first sign of boards not feeding through smoothly, switch off, unplug the machine, raise the cutter head and rub wax on the bed. Let it dry for a few minutes, then buff the surface with a clean rag.

I don’t buy a 1/2 ton truck when I need a 1 ton truck, what you experienced was a hobbyist grade piece of equipment ware out quickly doing probably pro level work. If you bought a 209HH you wouldn’t have to write a long review like this one. My point is I knew what I was going to do when I bought my truck 13 years ago, it still works fine. I bought my joiner its a 8″ PJ-882HH which is a phenomenal piece of equipment.

The extra set of planer knifes that comes with the DW735X are also extra helpful as you can quickly swap out the old knives when they get dull and replace them with the new knifes. While the DW735 is just the planer machine without the infeed and outfeed tables and the extra planer knifes. The only difference between the DW735X and the DW735 is that the DW735X comes with infield and outfeed tables for the planer, and an extra set of planer knives for the cutterhead. One thing that DeWalt has done with the DW735 is add a built in blower for clearing wood shavings from the blades. It has a surprising amount air flow, and if used without some type of dust collector, it will shoot wood shavings everywhere. It does a wonderful job at keeping dust and shavings from building up on the blades, thus lengthening their life.

The planer can make a maximum cut depth of 1/8 inch and a depth capacity of 6 inches. The total capacity of 13 inches was ample enough for me and should suffice for most professionals too. The DEWALT DW735 two speed thickness planer is one of the best thickness planers in use today. It is extremely powerful and is capable of handling dewalt tools any type of wood that you can feed it whether it is walnut, oak, or any type of exotic wood. Its portable size makes it easy to transport, and it has a two speed gear box which will enable you to adjust the feed speed for better cuts per inch. All in all, the Dewalt DW735 looks and feels like a dependable and efficient planer.

You won’t want to use any solvents to clean the rollers on the planer. It could damage or cause the material to deteriorate. dewalt tools I believe that is a right hand nut and you need a small 3/8″ impact to remove it.Hope that helps.Good luck.
