You Can Get An Rtx 2080 Ti Graphics Card For $999, But You’ll Have To Wait

GPUs are good at one thing—rendering 3D graphics, and most of us only need to render 3D graphics when we’re playing games. Nvidia’s GeForce is the first card we’ve tested able to deliver smooth frame rates at 4K with detail settings maxed out. Its halo features aren’t used in any games yet, but as those come online, the Turing architecture is expected to shine even brighter. Nvidia’s price premium for its Founders Edition cards, which have a three-year warranty and are overclocked by default, pushes the RTX 2080 Ti up to an eye-watering $1,199.

Dirt Rally seems the perfect choice since it was released in 2015 and is a good standard for current video games. Once more games confirm support for DLSS I’ll be sure to update this review. Even indoors, away from the reflective ice and glistening campfires, ray tracing helps to improve the environment. A cabinet’s glass door now displays a reflection so clear that it could come in handy for spotting stealthy enemies. Photo frames hanging up on the wall also benefited from the technology, as sunlight bounced off the glass and gave it a significantly more realistic appearance.

That’s well within the acceptable range, given the gtx 1090 Founders Edition is rated for 89 degrees C, but it remains to be seen how fast that difference will be eaten up by overclocking. An average performance improvement of 5 percent is unlikely to be perceptible outside of benchmarks; it’s just not enough to make an unplayable game playable. The RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition performed 30 percent better at 4K than the GTX 1080 Ti, down from the 37 percent in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. As observed going between 3DMark Fire Strike and the newer 3DMark Time Spy synthetic benchmarks, the RTX 20 series cards have more substantial gains on newer software platforms that use the latest technologies. Another point of observation is the tight battle being waged between the RTX 2080 and the GTX 1080 Ti.

The Blade Pro 17 also manages to deliver great endurance on our battery test lasting nearly 5 hours. And it also has a great webcam, which is somewhat of an anomaly in laptops in general. It’s very rare to see a 13-inch gaming system and even rarer for it to be a 2-in-1. But Asus didn’t stop there, they threw a high-powered AMD Ryzen 9 processor into the mix and even outfitted the notebook with its own discrete Nvidia GPU.

This is Futuremark’s DirectX 12-enabled benchmark for predicting the performance of DirectX 12-enabled games. It uses major features of the API, including asynchronous compute, explicit multi-adapter, and multi-threading. I didn’t run any VR-specific benchmarks on the gtx 1080 8gb Founders Edition. Pascal-based cards, starting with the mid-levelGeForce GTX 1060, were well capable of powering VR headsets, so doing so would hardly be a challenge for this monster card. The time to revisit VR will be when new VirtualLink-supporting VR headsets come to market. The RTX 2080 Founders Edition and the RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition share their twin-fan cooling system design and video-out connectivity.

Nvidia’s last generation, the 10-series, came out about two years ago and is still available today, and it’s still plenty fast for most games. I say games and not things because unless you’re mining crypto you’re probably only in the market for an expensive graphics card so you can play games on your expensive computer. You don’t really need a pricey GPU for working in Photoshop or editing a film.

The extra £430 that you need to spend on the RTX 2080 Ti over the GTX 1080 Ti gives you a 25% frame boost on average. The GTX 2080 Ti is the first consumer graphics card I’ve seen that’s capable of running Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 60 frames per seconds in 4K with graphic settings maxed out. On average, the GTX 2080 Ti’s average FPS benchmark was just shy of the much-desired 60fps, coming in at 57fps instead. Those who are obsessive with frame rates will be happy with the super-smooth performance here. But even when you don’t consider that, there’s no question that the RTX 2080 Ti is the most powerful consumer graphics card that you can buy right now. If you’re using an old rig and looking to make the jump to 4K and above AAA gaming the RTX 2080 Ti is the best option available.
