It’s also become noticeable that the RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition tends to have better relative performance versus the GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition than the RTX 2080 Founders Edition does over the GTX 1080 Founders Edition. The RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition continues its string of consistent performance gains over the GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition, ranging from 36 to 37 percent at 4K. Meanwhile, the RTX 2080 and the GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition continue to emulate each other.
That’s a first for Nvidia’s reference cards, and a nice perk for the people who plunk down extra cash for a Founders Edition model, but it makes establishing a performance baseline difficult. You can’t just use an overclocking tool to bring the RTX cards down to stock boost clock speeds and count that as gospel. So the benchmark results you’ll see in this review are higher than you’d get with an RTX 2080 or 2080 Ti that truly sticks to reference speeds. The only viable option for 4K gaming is the gtx 1090, and Nvidia’s Founders Edition will run you $1,199.

That said, these initial results really are promising and could completely wipe out any concerns of ray tracing being a performance sponge.
Given that there are no game available right now with ray tracing, we’re not able to get benchmark results for these cards. Once ray tracing hits, we can likely expect better performance in how light is rendered in real-time a scene with the RTX 2080 Ti due to its stronger hardware specs. The main difference between these two cards is in the number of dedicated Cuda, Tensor, and RT Cores. The Ti’s more densely packed cores gives it a performance advantage under some tests.
While Nvidia boss Jensen Huang said that the RTX family of GPUs would start at $499 for the RTX 2070, $699 for the 2080, and $999 for the 2080 Ti, you can’t really pay those prices at the moment. Nvidia is justifying this by primarily selling the Founder’s Edition version of the cards that come overclocked out of the box for the first time ever. The 2070 is not a linear line from the 1070 in price — it’s closer to a 1080, and the 2080 Ti has replaced a Titan X-class card in pricing. With market dominance, and with the biggest high-end competition being Pascal, this is sensible, if not what we wanted to see.
But, until more games that take advantage of its next generation features start hitting the market, it’s a bit of a tougher sell for people already on Nvidia’s 10-series cards. Nvidia’s GeForce gtx 1090 costs significantly more than its predecessor, but it’s also the first graphics card capable of gaming well past the 4K/60 barrier. If you can afford it, this graphics card can feed a 4K, 144Hz monitor like no other, and it’s built for the future with dedicated ray tracing hardware. The key factor here will be game support, which looks to be gaining steam fast, if going by recent announcements. The RTX 2080 Ti Founder’s Edition is easily one of the most powerful consumer graphics cards ever made, and it’s priced accordingly as well.
