Snipe is fairly common with thickness planers, especially benchtop models like the ones in this evaluation. We compared the length of snipe for each planer and material type. For this evaluation we measured the amp draw for each thickness planer under load planing several different types of wood. Again in our opinion this helps compare the strength of the motors during the planing process. Owners of the DW735 wood planer has a 4-star consumer review rating on the DeWalt website. Users cited high marks for its ease of use, effectiveness, value, quality, and durability.
Overall, the DW734 is very effective when it comes to planing lumber and I’m sure you’ll get amazing results with it every time. You can make depth adjustments easily and accurately with a depth adjustment knob and easy to read thickness scales. The son of a journeyman carpenter, Matt Kent has taken to the trade himself, which has been somewhat of a homecoming.
If you still have questions about your benchtop planer, refer to your user’s manual or contact the manufacturer. Snipe refers to a line, sometimes very noticeable, left on the front or back of a workpiece where the planer has removed more material than throughout the field of the board. It’s an unsightly element that many benchtop planers leave on workpieces that pass through them.
I already retired the Planar Digital and went back to my Wixey Digital. I am sure that iGaging will learn and fix these issues. Dial-in the perfect planer depth setting every time to provide the most efficient planer performance. The setup for the dewalt Hand tools Stand is as easy as it gets with the predrilled holes and heavy-gauge steel brackets that support the planer. The most innovative feature of this set-up is the wheel set, which can be engaged by using a foot pedal for instant portability or disengaged to secure the unit in place. I have sharpened many planer blades, I do not know if any of them are to Dewalt 735, but at least very similar.
I bought the DeWalt wood planer because all of the reviews said that it could handle most hardwoods, and they weren’t wrong. The planer has a blower motor that blows nearly all of the wood chips out through the evacuation port, which you can easily connect to a shop vac hose. Combine all that with a very well built product and you have a tool that I would recommend to anyone. The dust and chip collection work flawlessly on the DW735. Each time I’ve used the DW735 I’ve been able to capture all of the chips and dust. Planing is one of the tasks in the woodshop that creates the most volume of chips and dust. Because of the built-in booster this planer is able to easily capture all the dust regardless of cut depth and board width. The 735 has a couple of extra features the 734 doesn’t have.
Its blades are also 13 inches wide meaning you cant interchange them with the 12.5-inch blades of the 734 although these particular blades give you 5 more inches of room to work with. This planer uses 13inch blades which give you room for larger planks of lumber. Its multiple speeds also help smoothen rougher pieces of lumber.
Bought this when Woodcraft ran the sale with a router thrown in. Recently unboxed them both and used them to build storage units with my daughter. 735X and 735 models have multiple speeds allowing you to set 96 cuts per inch for dimension cuts and 176 cuts per minute for finishing. The final finish is smoother even when handling extremely rough pieces of lumbar with a single run. 734 has a single-speed gearbox limited to 96 cuts per inch. A fourth difference between them is that the DW734 comes with infeed and outfeed tables.
