Bringing a hardwood board from a 1-inch thickness to a 5/8-inch thickness, for example, could take five or six passes. There are two gauges on the DW735 and they are both easy to read and use. The removal gauge shown above shows how much thickness will be removed but it also offers a handy chart suggesting the maximum to remove per pass based on the width dewalt tools of the board. The thickness gauge shown on the right shows the total final thickness that the board will be after passing through the planer. A jack or smoothing plane with a blade ground to maximum camber can serve as a roughing plane. The camber reduces the cutting area, reducing the workload on the planer . To make a long story short, remove the circuit breaker switch and go online and order a new one. Luckily my brother had the same problem and had a spare and I’m up and running with no problem. On the back of the unit is where the chip extractor is located. This did a great job taking the waste away from inside the machine and ejecting it out this port on the back. This system uses a fan assisted ejection system for removal. In fact when we were done, pretty much the whole lawn was purple as we didn’t have it hooked up to a vacuum system.

The prior owner did not have a dust collector and he obviously had run some wood through it planing across the grain. This procedure throws out long fibers of wood rather than chips. The discharge chute was quite clogged when I first used it.

As a long time owner of this planer I agree with everything that you said about it. I do however feel that you overlooked it’s one real weakness, it’s blades. This results in ridges on the boards that need to be sanded. I have had much better results with aftermarket blades. One of the biggest complaints with smaller planers this size is snipe. I’ve planed well over 100 lineal feet of material and I have yet to find any snipe at all.
