Official Nvidia Rtx 2080 Ti, 2080, & 2070 Specs, Price, Release Date
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 may no longer be the flagship GPU du jour, with RTX 3080 just announced at Nvidia’s September 1 event. However, it still very much holds its own in a souped up gaming rig, and is one of the most powerful gaming cards, especially in the RTX line. Artificial intelligence is driving the greatest technology advancement in history, and Turing is bringing it to computer graphics. Experience AI-processing horsepower that accelerates gaming performance with NVIDIA DLSS 2.0.
RTX graphics cards are optimized for your favorite streaming apps to provide maximum performance for your live stream. This wasn’t the only game where the GTX 1080Ti got the upper hand, either, as both The Witcher III and Final Fantasy XV saw Nvidia’s previous gen card pip the to the frame rate post. In The Witcher III, the GTX 1080Ti hit a solid 60fps on Ultra at 4K compared to the RTX 2080’s occasional dips down to 50fps, while Final Fantasy XV saw an even bigger gap start to emerge.
The cards move forward with an upgraded-but-familiar Volta architecture, with some changes to the SMs and memory. The new RTX 2080 and 2080 Ti ship with reference cards first, and partner cards largely at the same time (with some more advanced models coming 1+ month later), depending on which partner it is. The board partners did not receive pricing or even card naming until around the same time as media, so expect delays in custom solutions.
On the Rise of the Tomb Raider benchmark on Very High at 1080p, the RTX 2080 hit 76 frames per second, surpassing the 67 fps from the GTX 1080, which marks a 13.4 percent improvement. The GTX version of the GT75 Titan costs $3,999, while the RTX version runs for $4,199, which means you’re paying an extra $200 to add some ray tracing and DLSS to your life. The two key features that Nvidia’s RTX chips boast are ray tracing and DLSS . Ray-tracing technology allows any source of in-game light to mimic the properties of a light source in real life, resulting in photo-realistic shadows and reflections. In October 2018, PC Gamer reported the supply of the 2080 Ti card was “extremely tight” after availability had already been delayed.
Those are both more than enough for getting the best out of 1920×1080 monitors, and neither of them will empty your bank account in the process. For the most part, none of those new Nvidia standards relies on the traditional gigabyte gtx 1060 3gb “more speed, more CUDA cores” formula of old. Some impressive tech is clearly going into Nvidia’s efforts, including a shift to a 12nm process—and thus making room for new discrete processor cores on the RTX series’ chips.
The GeForce gtx 1090 is an enthusiast-class graphics card by NVIDIA, launched in September 2018. Built on the 12 nm process, and based on the TU104 graphics processor, in its TU A-A1 variant, the card supports DirectX 12 Ultimate. Additionally, the DirectX 12 Ultimate capability guarantees support for hardware-raytracing, variable-rate shading and more, in upcoming video games.
With this latest series of Nvidia GeForce graphics cards, it seems Team Green is trying to up the cost of its graphics cards to be more premium than in prior years. This Turing card’s performance still justifies its relatively high price and is only slightly limited next to its more powerful siblings and rivals on our best graphics cards list. So, unless you need 4K 60fps performance, you can skip the RTX 2080 Ti for the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080. The factory overclocked GeForce RTX 2080 Founders Edition graphics card features a next-gen 8-phase power supply for maximum overclocking and dual-axial 13-blade fans coupled with a new vapor chamber for ultra-cool and quiet performance. This isn’t a massive problem as far as I’m concerned, as there are plenty of cheaper graphics cards out there that can already do max settings at 1080p perfectly well without forcing you to drop north of 700 big ones on it.
But even then, the RTX 2080 is cutting it close to delivering that sacred, silky-smooth frame rate at Ultra-HD resolutions. If you don’t want to deal with compromises, toning down your settings and splurging even more, you’d be much better off going with the top-end Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti. Spec for spec, the RTX 2080 is a step up from its predecessors in every way, packing more CUDA cores, faster GDDR6 video memory and even the first very 90Mhz factory overclock on Nvidia’s Founders Edition cards.
Still, I think people expected more from this GPU based on the previous Super variants. The ThinkStation Nvidia GeForce RTX2080 Super 8GB GDDR6 Graphics Card is powered by the award-winning NVIDIA Turing architecture with more cores, higher clocks, and faster memory for ultimate performance and incredible new levels of realism. The RTX 3070 is an easy recommendation for anyone with around $500 to spend on a graphics card for several reasons.
