Smells green all day long – if you would like something more cleaner and less daring then floris 1962 is an option. A true Masterpiece of art in fragrance. All others should bow down before the great green Polo god. Lasts 4 to 5 hours on me, and radiates around 5 feet away.

I remember thinking that I hated the smell on him — which amazes me, because today I love it so much that I want it as part of my permanent collection. Basically, what hits you first is the mix of cut grass and other plants, then the unmistakable piquant smell of the black pepper. 90% of what I’ve sampled before have been women’s fragrances, which tend to skimp on the black pepper. While I think that it would smell quite masculine and attractive on a man, I’m not sure that a woman wouldn’t be able to wear it in the right circumstances.

I’m apprehensive about bashing this one (but I will- it’s forthcoming) because it’s such a well loved classic. It comes from a different era when fragrances were bolder Polo Ralph Lauren t shirt and you got more bang for your buck. But I gotta tell ya, this stuff is polarizing! It will create an aura of old man though. I’m thinking 50+ with a limp and a beer belly. Definitely clean shaven, maybe a mustache. I mean, I do like it and will probably buy a bottle, but I have a few years before I get there. Lately, it seems like every other fragrance either smells too much alike, doesn’t perform or starts out unique and then simmers down to the same old base notes. I think this fragrance is genius, and, smelled without any period associations, is an amazing, unique smell.

I just never really have a good chance to wear it, and can’t think of any good situations that Polo would fit. Even though I own multiple versions of Polo throughout it’s life cycle, I still choose the modern formula for my day to day wear. My Cosmair bottles are purely for nostalgia and for the collection. And yes, it’s still absolutely outstanding. Besides it still holding my number one spot for classic male frags, this bottle remains undefeated. Simple, dignified, and to the point.
