The Maharishi x G-Shock Mudmaster GWG-1000MH-1A is the first GWG-1000-based collaboration watch. This late-2016 limited edition model is made in partnership with London clothing store Maharishi. The bands feature a unique “British Bonsai Forest” pattern that resembles digital camouflage.
Legibility was one of my key choices and many of the G-Shocks are not that great to tell the time with so the choices were soon narrowed down. The khaki strap, hands and orange subdial appealed to me straight off. I would have prefered orange numbers or hands but they didn’t offer it.
More so, this ‘Mud-Resist’ armour is even dirt and sludge proof. Today, Casio G-SHOCK unveiled an all-new line up to its popular men’s MUDMASTER series. Part of G-SHOCK’s Master of G collection, the timepieces are geared towards those who work in the toughest of conditions and is best known forits mud-resistant technology.
The LCD screen at 6 o’clock is used for reading the sensor functions of this watch. A downside of the GWG-1000, however, is that the screen is quite small and can be easy to read. Fortunately, you have the light button which makes it a bit easier. You may also use the button to move the hands out of the way quite frequently. Another button, the last button, is positioned at 6 o’clock at the bottom of the bezel and is used for activating the light.
If you buy it outside of Japan, it probably won’t include a warranty. For battery-powered models, it may mean a shorter battery life, but this seems to be something that is factored into the estimated battery life specs. Only thing that lets this tough G-Shock down is the light, my last Mudman illuminated the watch so well, you could read the digital screen. I used to push the illuminated light button walk around the house using it as a torch it was that bright. The new Mudmaster is a tactical-looking watch that combines advanced technical features with extreme durability and takes the analog-style G-Shock to another level.
The Casio G-Shock Mudmaster line is a great example of what the sub brand is capable of, and their latest, the Casio G-Shock Mudmaster GGB100 Watch, more than lives up to the name. High-quality, carbon composite monocoque inner structure designed and engineered to withstand land, sea and air. Quad Sensor capabilities pack compass, altitude / barometer, temperature and accelerometer baby g shock features into one easy-to-read face. Starting off with the case, it goes without saying that this is a case design that is out of the ordinary. With that said, it is a rather large watch, as to be expected from a watch made for the outdoors. Obviously, this isn’t a watch that you wear with your suit, and it is also relatively heavy compared to many other G-Shocks, weighing in at about 120 grams.
The thermometer of this watch simply indicates the temperature where you are. To access this, you use the thermometer button which is the left lower button to get the sub-second to move to the temperature position. Once you have gotten the sub-dial into the correct position, the temperature will be indicated on the LCD screen. I sincerely prefer the mineral glass over the sapphire crystal because of the way it behaves over time but that’s more of a personal opinion. The stainless steel resin case is of incredibly good quality and trust me it can be reliable for lots of years from the moment you buy it. The band material is a good-feeling resin that Casio pretty much used in all G-Shock with some exception, so nothing new here. The face of the watch is marked with large Arabian numerals as 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock for easy reading. The face is illuminated by a double LED light and protected by a sapphire crystal to ensure high visibility under virtually any conditions imaginable.
