The stopwatch, timer and alarm I use regularly but the temperature is not a lot of use. I imagine the compass is handy if you are out with a map, saves bringing a separate one, but I haven’t carried a map for some time. This generates energy to the battery and thus eliminates the need for replacing the batteries. Casio has seamlessly integrated the solar panel into the dial which is a nice feature as on many other solar watches, the solar panels are quite visible, which affects the overall appearance of the watch.
At first encounter, the Mudmaster’s aggressive size seems to suggest its purpose as rugged equipment and just how much tech is packed inside it. Colors and textures that reference military or industrial themes further communicate that this watch means business. The height of the resin layer is thick and it is followed by a brushed stainless steel layer that’s highlighted with the same stainless steel on top which runs adjacent to the buttons.
Doing so also let them remove button guards from the exterior, which helps streamline the G-SHOCK’s look. Is it unreasonable to wish that the digital parts illuminated along with the analog parts ? I know I can’t really see the digital with the analog light. My previous Mudman gave nearly 8 years of faithful service before it literally fell apart and I would expect this one to last as well. This mudmaster is g shock protection meant for those who requires a watch this tough, those who defend your ass when you’re sleeping. It seems that Casio keeps it up very well by releasing all these great G-Shocks to fulfill the customers requirements. Some may say that the future is for the smart watches but I strongly disagree with that.
But the best advice I was given to care of my watches was to take them of before shower (and for sleeping but shower is what’s more damaging). The toughest watches, the more waterproof watches are not made to endure hot water and detergent everyday. Since I stopped wearing them under shower, I just wipe them with my bath towel before going to sleep when I take my watch off, so you clean the sweat and the dust of the day and it’s clean when you put it on in the morning. The two G’s I bought since I do that are just like brand new after a full year. The Mudmaster comes with a double LED illuminated dial, which will come in handy for those early mornings and late nights afield.
It easily survived the bumpy ride, being totally submerged in mud, an encounter with a hostile local, and an ATV that seemed to catch fire briefly. The new models usually get released in Japan first, so they may be charging a premium because you can’t get it anywhere else. If it’s a limited edition model, they tend to cost more if it’s from Japan. Maybe they charge more because it’s more of a hassle to send something internationally.
