G Shock Mudmaster
Previous “Triple Sensor” watches had a compass, thermometer, and pressure sensors, which are used for barometer and altimeter readings. The fourth sensor in the Mudmaster’s “Quad Sensor” is an accelerometer which senses the acceleration of gravity the same way smartphones are able to detect directions, tilts, vibrations, etc. This is used in the Mudmaster to offer a step counter which can then share data with a smartphone via a bluetooth connection (activated by the button at 3 o’clock).
This shock-resistant carbon core guard protects the watch’s vitals to assure proper function regardless of terrain or weather conditions. Using carbon for the watch’s core saves weight and adds strength, as it has a tensile strength ten times that of iron and yet weighs far less. The carbon case also allowed Casio designers to develop a new structure of shock-resistant button.
I have read in one of the answers that few models are ion plated. I do construction work and I’m an outdoors type person so far it has held up good. I don’t believe I will mess it up on the construction site. Only complaint is that the rubberized plastic bezel has a matte black finish because of its size it rubs on the inside of my jacket sleeve. Now it is becoming shiny in spots that come in contact with long sleeve clothing. So basically the matte finish is getting a Polish from clothing.

I’m a carpenter so I’ve gone through a lot of watches from the impact of swinging a hammer or the vibration from running a sawzall would vibrate the hands right off most of the competetors watches. The LED could of been a little bit brighter otherwise I’ve been really g shock protection happy with this watch. Casio has provided all the information on the dial itself, making it easy to access the watch features without any struggle. And despite its shock-proof tough armor and enormous footprint on wrist, GWD-1000 feels unbelievably light.
It’s a watch that can withstand extreme conditions, does not need a charger and is durable enough to accompany you on every adventure trip. If price is not an issue, then you should definitely go for it. The large buttons on the case makes it easy to operate the watch even if you are wearing gloves. This makes it a perfect companion for those who are frequent travellers to hills and seek adventure.
The smartphone link further allows the time to automatically update when changing time zones as well as adjust the timekeeping accuracy. An Activity Log feature uses the phone’s positioning and the watch’s altimeter to track activity, but it seems like most smartphones alone would be able to accomplish this. It will be more useful if future versions of the watch are able to perform these kinds of things autonomously like some smartwatches already can. If the rest of the model name is the same, it’s the same watch, but it is just meant to be sold in Japan.
