I just want to let people know that this is not a variable speed tool. You may be able to control the speed with some magical power but I have now such thing at my disposal so i consider this a two speed tool, off and on. I sort of think the tool landed in the hands of the marketing dewalt Hand tools team at DeWalt and they said “hey look, when you pull the trigger a little it goes slower! ” It’s a fact that it’s speed changes depending on how much you pull the trigger but there is no way to control it unless you’re just sitting at a table somewhere holding it.

Otherwise it does what I bought it to do, oscillate back and forth while holding an accessory. You can cut curved or straight lines with an oscillating tool. To cut straight, you’ll typically do best with a round or half-moon saw blade. Mark your desired cut line with a pencil or marker on the material you’ll be cutting, and then slowly and carefully work your oscillating tool along the line, cutting no deeper than ¼-inch.

It also can zip through softwood quickly and easily at a high speed. Thought the tool was good for used in those hard to reach areas to cut wood & metal. Will continue to replace my Dewalts with better quality tools going forward. I bought this as I wasn’t able to find the blades for the Master Mechanic I have.
