Rtx 2070 Super

There were again some sizeable gains against the old RTX card of 22% at 1080p, 23% at 1440p and 20% at 4K, although bear in mind that RTX 2070 result is from a stock card – not a Founders Edition. Even so, it was a win over the GTX 1080 Ti here – so Nvidia’s claims are in part true, although not across the board. To start with we should look at pricing and as far as the RTX 2070 Super goes, things aren’t too bad. We’re looking at an MSRP of $499 (£475 in the UK), while the cheapest RTX 2070’s I could find were around the $479 (£479) mark.

The two-slot card measures a mere nine inches in length, or 1.5 inches shorter than typical graphics cards, so hanging the power connection off the back isn’t an issue. The lack of available ray-traced or DLSS games is a bummer with this graphics card in particular. Typically, the ships with three DisplayPort outputs, one HDMI 2.0 and a USB-C port, compatible with the VirtualLink standard for easier VR connectivity – and this line-up of IO makes the card a match for the RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti. As it has a lower power requirement, the 2070 only requires one eight-pin power input, though the MSI Gaming-Z product adds an extra six-pin input too. However, as the RTX 2070 is based on an entirely different TU106 processor, there is no NVLink port, meaning no SLI support – something that has upset some enthusiasts.

The tech boost performance and visual acuity in games with little work needed for developers. Get the High FPS and option to take advantage of Raytracing for games that support it. Neither of these support NVLink nor SLI, so there’s no room for performance improvement that way. Although game or driver support for SLI these days is almost gone, so it’s never really a good idea to go down that path, even if its available. Because there’s only a slight disparity between the amount of cache memory, you might be tempted to think it doesn’t matter as much. Really, RTX 2070 is in line with every other RTX 20 series GPU, bar the mammoth 5.5 for RTX 2080 Ti, and equally crazy 6 MB for Titan RTX.

If you want an option that has RGB lighting on it, though, then you might want to consider either the ASUS ROG STRIX listed below, or the MSI Trio listed in the Honorable Mentions section. In this guide, we’ve rated and reviewed seven of the best SUPER video cards. The new GeForce RTX SUPER Series cards deliver everything you need to rule your game. They’re powered by the Turing architecture and feature more cores and higher clocks.

We’ve seen AMD use 7nm for the Radeon VII, but this card was based on the previous GCN architecture. AMD claims that RDNA cards will have 50 percent better performance than previous GCN cards, which could mean we’ll see some interesting developments in the high-end of the market soon. But, like the gtx 1080 8gb Super, the performance bump comes with a power consumption bump.

Next up is the area in which RTX 2070 dominates and removes all doubt about which card is better. They both use GDDR6 which was the standard at the time of their release, but the advantages in size, bandwidth and bus width make RTX 2070 a far better choice for stuff like 4K gaming and video editing. If every other metric in this RTX 2060 vs RTX 2070 comparison was level, then 2060’s boost clock might be advantageous, but that’s simply not the case.

Despite this increase in performance, we don’t really see any dramatic rise in temperatures. Like most GPUs, the fans run in idle until needed but the card has been measured at around 33 DBa, which is considered excellent. Overclock– Overclocking refers to pushing the clock speed of a component higher to get more performance. Usually, this is done by the user, but the cards we’re listing here today all boast “factory overclocks”, which is overclocking done by the manufacturer and proven stable. Clock Speed– Clock speed refers to the internal, “core” clock of the graphics processor.

Now you’re probably saying to yourself at this stage, well that’s great but the 1080 is probably much cheaper and it’s only 5% less effective, and that’s where you would be wrong. Again, dependant on which card you go for, the 2070 is pretty much the same price as the 1080. It’s been developed to be competitive in pricing whilst still being equipped with the latest tech. So to cut a long story short, the 1080 which is still a fantastic card, is the lesser of the 2 on a number of different tests and you should definitely reconsider if you were thinking about buying one. This is what allows us to be so confident in the products we recommend.

The customizable table below combines these factors to bring you the definitive list of top GPUs. You can, at least, get away with a 550W power supply this time, though, unlike the RTX 2080 siblings which recommend 650W. Finally, power consumption was around 10W more under load for the system as a whole with the RTX 2070 Super, which is maybe a little less than I was expecting and may well be more in other tests than the 3D Mark Port Royal I used here. There’s a slight downgrade, though, which is power consumption, which rises from 175W with the RTX 2070 to 215W with the new Super model. With our GeForce RTX 2070 test bench, we were able to play Strange Brigade and Forza Horizon 4 at a respectable 70 fps to 60 fps, respectively.
