AMD showed their cards early , so NVIDIA and the rest of the world were able to see what kind of performance AMD is expecting to get and at what prices those cards will roll out. When they are released on July 9th, the GeForce RTX 20 series Super cards are going to be sharing store shelves with the rest of the GeForce RTX 20 series cards. Some cards like the RTX 2080 and gtx 1080 8gb are set to go away, while other cards like the RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 2060 will remain on the market as-is. In practice, it’s probably best to think of the new cards as NVIDIA executing as either a price cut or a spec bump – depending on if you see the glass as half-empty or half-full – all without meaningfully changing their price tiers.
The 1080ti more than keeps up at 4K at max details , and by the time it doesn’t, there will be faster cards that do. The competition for the new Super cards will of course be AMD’s Radeon RX 5700 series. There are no perfect 1-to-1 comparisons here since AMD and NVIDIA are selling at slightly different prices. But the RTX 2060 Super is clearly positioned to squeeze both the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT, while the RTX 2070 Super would be NVIDIA’s trump card over the RX 5700 XT. To what degree of course remains to be seen in a few days when AMD’s new cards launch.
The tech boost performance and visual acuity in games with little work needed for developers. Get the High FPS and option to take advantage of Raytracing for games that support it. Neither of these support NVLink nor SLI, so there’s no room for performance improvement that way. Although game or driver support for SLI these days is almost gone, so it’s never really a good idea to go down that path, even if its available. Finally, power consumption was around 10W more under load for the system as a whole with the gtx 1090 Super, which is maybe a little less than I was expecting and may well be more in other tests than the 3D Mark Port Royal I used here. There’s a slight downgrade, though, which is power consumption, which rises from 175W with the RTX 2070 to 215W with the new Super model. With our GeForce RTX 2070 test bench, we were able to play Strange Brigade and Forza Horizon 4 at a respectable 70 fps to 60 fps, respectively.

Another point of interest is 2060’s 165W power need which is below 2070’s 185W. This would translate to the former needing a 500W PSU, while the latter would need to bump it up to 550W. The power consumption might seem less significant, but when it comes to the choice of needing to upgrade your PSU to accommodate the GPU, it’s definitely better to go for a lower-consuming card. The reason why many people are getting a good GPU is to have a more enjoyable gaming experience.
