Nvidia Rtx 2070 Super Review
Anyway, let’s take a look at the specifications, what’s changed and just how fast the Super is. Today I’ll be pitching Nvidia’s latest pair of RTX mid-range graphics cards against their predecessors to see just how fast these new tweaked kids on the block are – namely the RTX 2060 Super and RTX 2070 Super. You’d be right in thinking the RTX series hasn’t been around long, yet less than 12 months on, Nvidia has ousted a whole new range of graphics cards – the RTX Super series. Nvidia’s latest graphics cards have featured surprising performance in 4K gaming, but we weren’t expecting the Nvidia RTX 2070 to deliver here. INNO3D introduces its new INNO3D GeForce RTX 30 Series with an exciting range of cutting-edge fans including the iCHILL X4 with programmable RGB that boasts large triple 9cm fan with a side rotor fan to cool the MOSFET. Specifically designed to be an ultimate cooling solution and with factory overclock so that all you have to do is plug and play your favourite games straight from the box.
If the goal is to coerce exorbitant spending for gaming, they’re going to push people into next gen consoles instead. Although, considering the premium that comes with RGB lighting on PC hardware, a $40 price hike is probably par for the course. So, if you want the RGB lighting that the Gaming Trio has to offer, there’s nothing wrong with that. And, most benchmarks show those two GPUs pulling fairly even in performance. However, if you don’t want to overclock your GPU yourself, or if you like the RGB lighting that this card comes with, and you don’t mind paying a premium to get it, then the ROG STRIX might be best for your specific needs.
It was easy to overclock with my xc gaming to around 2120 clock speed, around 75 degrees full load gaming with fan curve adjustment. So yes, the RTX 2070 (or at least Zotac’s AMP Extreme interpretation of it) is, right now, by and large, a better graphics card than the GTX 1080. You get more tensor cores, 4 more streaming multiprocessors, 254 extra CUDA cores and significantly higher base and boost frequencies. However, the memory amount and speed remain the same – only the RTX 2060 Super gets a memory upgrade from 6GB to 8GB as well as a memory interface bump, while the RTX 2080 Super boasts faster memory than its predecessor. It also features significantly noticeably fewer Ray Tracing cores and AI-powered Tensor cores compared to the rest of the Nvidia Turing lineup.
Their gigabyte gtx 1060 3gb iteration, the XLR8 Gaming OC Edition, comes to shelves at the lower end of the price spectrum once again but surprisingly doesn’t really skimp on the performance. It comes clocked at 1710MHz which is very respectable and a dual fan setup which offers a pair of scythe-bladed fans which do produce some noise but nothing which would be considered noisy. A honeycombed bracket and RGB light strip which sits on top of the cooling heatsink pair together to create a stylish look that is both sleek and versatile. You get all this for substantially less than the other cards on the list and for this reason we have awarded the PNY with our Top budget award. Overall, though, unless you’re building a compact system, you’d be better off opting for the Gigabyte Windforce OC listed above, as it is only ~$10 more and it features a higher boost clock rate and better cooling. Boosts the card’s clock speed in real-time based on the target temperature.
This revolutionary architecture, combined with our all-new GeForce RTX™ platform, fuses together real-time ray tracing, artificial intelligence, and programmable shading. The work they put into the thermals, the power and specs of the machine is top notch and the price is superb too. We calculate effective 3D speed which estimates gaming performance for the top 12 games. Effective speed is adjusted by current prices to yield value for money. Our figures are checked against thousands of individual user ratings.
Built on the 12 nm process, and based on the TU106 graphics processor, in its TU A-A1 variant, the card supports DirectX 12 Ultimate. Additionally, the DirectX 12 Ultimate capability guarantees support for hardware-raytracing, variable-rate shading and more, in upcoming video games. gtx 1080 8gb The TU106 graphics processor is a large chip with a die area of 445 mm² and 10,800 million transistors. It features 2304 shading units, 144 texture mapping units, and 64 ROPs. Also included are 288 tensor cores which help improve the speed of machine learning applications.
Mesh Shaders advanced geometry processing supports an order of magnitude more objects per-scene, allowing the creation of rich complex worlds.

Now you’re probably saying to yourself at this stage, well that’s great but the 1080 is probably much cheaper and it’s only 5% less effective, and that’s where you would be wrong. Again, dependant on which card you go for, the 2070 is pretty much the same price as the 1080. It’s been developed to be competitive in pricing whilst still being equipped with the latest tech. So to cut a long story short, the 1080 which is still a fantastic card, is the lesser of the 2 on a number of different tests and you should definitely reconsider if you were thinking about buying one. This is what allows us to be so confident in the products we recommend.
Get the most out of your MSI graphics card in terms of performance and experience almost unlimited customization options with the included software. The latter I can disclose the performance of on Sunday 7th July and as real-world tests are what counts, I would suggest waiting till then to make your decisions if you’re in the market for a new graphics card. In short, though, the RTX 2070 Super is a great buy, and even better if you’ll be dabbling in DLSS and ray-tracing. Joking and lack of sleep aside, there’s a simple reason why they’re here, though, and that’s AMD’s Navi graphics cards. AMD has been fairly focussed in its pitches about the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT’s performance, taking aim at the RTX 2060 and RTX 2070 respectively.
