The frame puts you in a slightly upright position (Argon 18’s 3D+ system provides every frame with a whopping 60mm of stack adjustment), and the all-road platform has clearance for tires up to 40mm . You get a regular double chainring with normal q-factor, SRAM Force drivetrain and brakes, and a smooth, cushy ride. With giant KIDS BIKES super-quiet operation, 40Nm of torque, and a 20mph-assist cutoff, the Subito provides a more subtle experience than you get with a high-torque, class-3 e-bike. The assist is noticeable and helpful for making climbs go quicker and for pushing through a strong headwind, but you don’t get cheat-mode levels of boost.
With pedal-assist, the electric motor is regulated by pedalling. The pedal-assist augments the efforts of the rider when they are pedalling. These e-bikes – called pedelecs – have a sensor to detect the pedalling speed, the pedalling force, or both. Brake activation is sensed to disable the motor as well. Some of the less expensive e-bikes used bulky lead acid batteries, whereas newer models generally used NiMH, NiCd, and/or Li-ion batteries, which offered lighter, denser capacity batteries.
Research has shown that the average commute time and distance by car in Germany’s larger cities are almost the same as by e-bike.
