Performance wise it is a beast for me. I find that applying some Vaseline on the area and then spraying helps longevity as well (good for your skin, too!). I will, however, note that this isn’t a safe blind buy. It is a scent that will fit the person and by that I mean it has an aura people are either extremely fond of, or shy away from. I say this because I wear this daily and a friend wanted it after smelling it on me. Once he purchased his own and started to use it, he just didn’t like it as much.
There is not a shred of femininity in this bad boy. It’s rich, aromatic, and powerful. Those easily offended or wishing to smell like a lollipop need not apply here; you can continue to share your perfume with females. This isn’t a “panty dropper”, those do not exist. but it will sure draw in the ladies who are looking for someone with confidence and warmth. Wear this around the holidays, by the fireplace, in a cozy place, etc.
I’m reminded of how my clothes smelled when I was a smoker. It’s also a very nostalgic smell and, yes, I would also dub it a “dad smell”, if there was such a thing. Kind of interesting accord, but definitely not universally appealing. A couple of hours after application the smell just gets better and better.
For me, this is an easy fragrance to love. It’s deep green and herbal, a kind of spicy chypre. It smells like nature, very much like a forest (I’m not sure if the intention here was to evoke a polo playing field or meadow). This is the kind of fragrance that they don’t make now (unless it’s niche).
I just bought a bottle a week ago and it’s now my go-to fragrance every morning. I’ve received so many compliments, I think this would be an office or school safe fragrance. I love it but you have to be in the right mood and the right state of mind for this, a old school swagger. It defiantly has a wisened gentlemanly feel too it. Like a old library or cigar bar or antique store kind of vibe. Heavy on the pine needles, and a almost burnt out, tar like campfire smell.
I remember seeing the bottle as a kid thinking that that’s what men’s cologne looks like. I really want to re-experience the vintage version of this that all the boys in school wore the year it came out, but it’s so darn expensive, it’ll have to wait. I tried the new Polo Ralph Lauren t shirt version of the original, which is needless to say, very very different. Definitely American Republicanism, conservatism and capitalism in a bottle – things I love and respect, definitely masculine, and most definitely green and leathery – at least in the drydown.
Great longevity and sillage in the old version. I don’t care if it’s “old school”. I will being exploring Polo Ralph Lauren t shirt the new version to see how it compares and if it holds up well in reformulation, it will be my next FB.
Mature scent, it would not suit high school anymore. Just got my bottle yesterday, it is a current formulation. When I opened the box the smell was resonating from the package, I was very pleased. I sprayed it on lightly and it was close to what I recalled. Very green, woody, spicy and fresh. You can sense this old masterpiece influenced many scents by Amouage, nasomatto and others.
