An electric power-assist system may be added to almost any pedal cycle using chain drive, belt drive, hub motors or friction drive. The motor is built into the wheel hub itself, while the stator is fixed solidly to the axle, and the magnets are attached to and rotating with the wheel. The power levels of motors used are influenced by available legal categories and are often, but not always limited to under 750 watts. No matter what power output you select, the responsive pedal assist is delivered smoothly, with no jerking or pulling.

We’ve spent many hours and miles using e-bikes for their intended purpose. TheSwagtron EB5 Prois a folding pedal-assist bike with an electric motor that also has its own throttle (so you don’t really have to pedal at all). With a full battery, it can travel up to 15 miles at a speed of 15 mph. This folding bike is a single speed, and you can even turn all the powered features and pedal-assist mode off and use it like a regular bike. It weighs a solid 37 pounds and the seat supports riders of up to 264 pounds, but when the seat is folded down, this commuter bike is surprisingly small.
Class 3, also known as “speed pedelec,” can also have up to only a 750w motor , but can assist you up to 28 mph. Both are allowed in most states and cities giant KIDS BIKES without the need for a license. Class 2 models have a throttle that can propel a bike up to and maintain 20 mph without having to continuously pedal.
The GS that I tested is currently unavailable on the company’s website, but the even higher-end GX with an aluminum frame is available for $3,299. And if you’re not sure it’s worth it sight unseen, you may be able tofind a local retailer that carries the GoCycle line and allows test rides. I would recommend the Charge XC for anyone who enjoys riding and doesn’t want too much assistance but wouldn’t mind an extra boost from time to time.
The bikes can only be rented to riders age 18 and up. Twenty E-bike stations and 190 e-bikes are located throughout giant ROAD BIKES Park City and Summit County. Register and visit Bewegen’s website to get additional information.
They amplify your input and disengage when you’re over top speed, or in “off” mode, to create a ride that’s free of unnatural resistance. Our Mission Control App also lets you giant mountain fully customize motor characteristics to your personal preferences. It’s a little counterintuitive, we’ll admit, but if it means more rides more often, we’re all for it.
