The all-black sombre elegance of the GA A1ER, the classic Casioak, pairs well even with a nice olive green shirt and tailored chinos. The hidden benefit of slim wrists, is the ability to get even quite chunky watches under a nice cuff and, for me, these types of style contrasts rule. The tech, while stronger, also allows for a thinner case, which means you get a stronger material without adding on the bulk, reflected in the GA-2100’s more manageable 45 mm case size. The 2100 series launched in 2019 as a more subtle G-Shock, intended to slot neatly into the wardrobes of a younger, style-conscious audience.
I have managed to surprise myself with the joy of such simple wrist-worn fun. I’ve also enjoyed wearing the only watch in the house with a retrograde display for the weekdays, a proper world timer, 200m depth rating and all the other functions we simply take for granted. In short, the Casioak is a technological marvel spiced up with cheap fun – for about baby g shock $220AUD it offers value with a capital V. I am seriously impressed. This is a watch for everything, and I genuinely understand why it’s got such a star rating among the watch community. The office is not the office anymore, and while we might long for suiting up again to impress colleagues with our sharp taste in tailoring, this is not the time.
They later released a more 90s throwback range that are black with purple/blue and green/red. The dial of G-Shock GA-2100 is classic in many senses, but still comes with a few unique layout features. The spring bars are quick-release but are configured in proprietary set up. By far the most distinguishing feature for the CasiOak is the octagon-shaped bezel. It’s done in a soft way that’s not too angular or awkward.
I really love it if it have the seconds hand on the Analog portion of the watch . The GA-2100SU-1A with camo bezel and the green and black GA-2110SU-3A are new releases in the U.S. and are available at several retailers. Also new, but not released in the U.S., is the yellow and black GA-2110SU-9A that was released in Japan, Asia, Europe, and Australia. We wouldn’t be surprised to see more GA-2100 models released in 2020.
