It is almost like the spicy notes are coming through better now as I could mostly only smell a wet green grass note before. So I do think polo dress shirts it comes across as a lot more balanced and richer now. I wore this infrequently in high school and only recently reacquired it.
I’ve gotten a couple compliments from this fragrance and also love it myself . This is the gold standard when it comes to masculine smelling men’s fragrances. What I get initially is pine needles and the general smell of being outdoors in the country.
Nobody should be without this one in their arsenal, as it simply has first rate longevity and character. One of the five most important colognes of the 20th century. Despite being overused and over-worn, still maintains its dignity. You think you could handle the life of a German barbarian in the late fourth and early fifth centuries? Could you really swing a battle axe with one hand? Could you really defend your family from onslaught after endless onslaught of pending chaos and death?
Perhaps this sort of thing made a lasting impression on me as a kid – Brut and soap-on-a-rope for Xmas, I don’t know. But I’m learning that the woodsy/green/leathers with earthy patch/vetiver/oakmoss drydowns are usually winners for me. The tobacco note in Polo, as elsewhere, only serves to make me love this more. Got a 237ml bottle of this as Xmas present to myself – ‘cos I is werf it. I never wore this on a regular basis in the past but I believe the recently purchased bottle I have, though true to what I remember, has the overall heft and base notes dialed back.
It’s a masterpiece with a mixes and mysterious notes. I have to add I can feel cinnamon all the time although not mentioned. Stop by Sephora (it’s a mainstay there) and spritz some on your pressure points. What I am saying is DON’T BLIND BUY. On the plus side, sillage and longevity are awesome, even the reformulated version. A classic that to me is in no way dated. A drydown as remarkable as Rive Gauche, Opium for men and M7.
It smells exactly what I remember back in the day, but the silage is only several hours if that, not quite as long as the the EDT. What I really would like to know is in what respects does the “Modern Reserve” differ to the “After Shave” splash on, and the “EDT”? Fragrances like this are a symbol of maturity and a solid strong personality; just made for men that are not looking for compliments but to wear the fragrance they only appreciate and love. This is a milestone in men’s perfumery. Probably the most classic and the most masculine of all men’s fragrances.
This is leafy and dry tobacco rolled up with a bunch of Asian spices just off the ship from Portuguese and Dutch traders back from Malaysia and Indonesia. Italians, Germans and Brits until Polo unleashed polo dress shirts this dirty frontiersman like woody monster on the buying public. Do you like warm spice, earthy tobacco, muddy roots, green and damp decaying woods in the late evening just a few degrees above freezing?
