One year passed and the result was “Polo for Men,” also known as “Polo Green.” But the drydown is immaculate and slightly tobacco without it being smoky. This is such an intoxicating scent that it becomes you. Once you grow up with this, your standards are so much higher in what you expect a good edt to be. This is something millenials just don’t understand.
Everyone needs a few anchor-points back to their young and carefree days, and funnily enough, Polo Green has become one of mine from a memory I will always look back on with a smile. My poor ERG forever stunk of Polo Green after that, the smell literally never vanished! Back in the day this stuff was a whole forest crushed and compressed into liquid form and then crammed into a bottle! Whatever formulation I had in mid 90’s sure smelled nice, news didn’t travel fast and nobody paged me to let me know that the original is no more.
Fresh, clean, spicy, classy and luxurious. It seems like there will be no performance issues with my item. I never used the vintage formula but I am more than impressed with the June 2018 product. I was able to smell it on my arm still 8 hours later which is more than satisfactory.
It smells exactly what I remember back in the day, but the silage is only several hours if that, not quite as long as the the EDT. What I really would like to know is in what respects does the “Modern Reserve” differ to the “After Shave” splash on, and the “EDT”? Fragrances like this polo dress shirts are a symbol of maturity and a solid strong personality; just made for men that are not looking for compliments but to wear the fragrance they only appreciate and love. This is a milestone in men’s perfumery. Probably the most classic and the most masculine of all men’s fragrances.
It still lasts well and seems more versatile now to me. A class in a bottle, stands on its own and is a trendsetter – a one and only green and leather chypre with a huge load of tobacco. This is the worst fragrance I’ve ever smelled. I’m not sure what went wrong – but I don’t believe people actually wear whatever I smelled. Smells like being bashed around the head with a pine branch.
Basically, what hits you first is the mix of cut grass and other plants, then the unmistakable piquant smell of the black pepper. 90% of what I’ve sampled before have been women’s fragrances, which tend to skimp on the black pepper. While I think that it would smell quite masculine and attractive on a man, I’m not sure that a woman wouldn’t be able to wear it in the right circumstances.
Smells green all day long – if you would like something more cleaner and less daring then floris 1962 is an option. A true Masterpiece of art in fragrance. All others should bow down before the great green Polo god. Lasts 4 to 5 hours on me, and radiates around 5 feet away.
I can’t imagine any occasion that would be suitable for it and it smells way too outdated. The dark grey suit and lace-up leather shoes come next with the tortoise-shell rimmed glasses and that handsome mustache neatly trimmed. This fragrance is fresh, grassy and pleasant, but I can’t go out smelling as immaculate as, uhm, the Virgin Mary. If my nose had no association with that, I would have loved this for everyday use.
Legend has it that my wife was taken in by me as this is what I wore when I first met her. 20 years later she still swears that she remembers me with this perfume. It’s still her favourite, though I now own a lot of perfumes her eyes light up whenever i wear this one.
Nothing gender neutral or metrosexual about this, it’s out there letting others know this what it means to be manly. It’s old skool in the same category as cerruti 1886, Givenchy gentleman, quorum. the kind of aftershave your dad or grandad still wears. I’m not sure this appeals to a younger generation and you either love it or hate. But it is definitely a very formal scent.
