Add in all of other clever RTX gubbins, such as their really very nifty DLSS support , and some of those aforementioned toughies become really quite tamable. Take Final Fantasy XV, which stuttered along at 34-39fps on Average at 4K with all of Nvidia’s extra effects turned off, but whizzed up to a much smoother 43-45fps when I turned on DLSS in its anti-aliasing menu.
Whenever that happens, as a company you need to set things right. The first attempt at that will be what we review today, a product that most people can afford, the GeForce RTX 2060. It’s another £100 / $100 more expensive than the GTX 1060, with Nvidia’s Founders Edition on test here going for £329 / $349 while third party cards currently start at £350 / $350, but when it comes to speed, it’s in another league altogether. Whereas the GTX 1060 struggled to hit 60fps on higher quality settings at 1440p, the RTX 2060 sails past that number and then some.
The second issue is price vs. performance, with the cheapest RTX 2070 fetching £450 but barely any faster than the GTX 1080 from the Pascal generation. Dedicated ray tracing hardware enables fast real-time ray tracing with physically accurate shadows, reflections, refractions, and global illumination. But I definitely think the i7 4790k is the main bottleneck element with CPU heavy games in 1080p for a RTX 2080 OC. ye i’m also looking to upgrade my 7700k for now and mostly going for 8700k tho, since 9900k is a fail chip imo in terms of price/performance and 9700k doesn’t have a hyperthreading which is important for me. The i7-6700K will not bottleneck any RTX GPU. Skyrim LE isn’t hard-coded to 60fps and never was afaik.
Regardless of which card you buy, though, every RTX 2060 comes with 6GB of super fast GDDR6 memory clocked at 14Gbps, as well as 1920 CUDA cores . If you’ve been dreaming of getting something powerful like the RTX 2080, then the $499 RTX 2070 Super will get you close. And if you’re intrigued by ray tracing, your only choice is to pick one of the NVIDIA cards.
