I7 4790k Rtx 2070 Super Bottleneck
The foundation engine supports a realistic representation of water and snow and shows the game characters detailed. The display of hair is also very realistic thanks to the support of TressFX or HairWorks . But the 2060, unlike the 1060, does ray tracing and is the cheapest card available that’s capable of the technology.
If you’re after a new graphics card for nigh-on perfect 1440p gaming at 60fps, this is your next upgrade. I’m not just parroting marketing fluff at you, either, as I myself rather reluctantly bought a GTX 1070 for £320 back in 2016, just when prices were starting to creep up before they went completely insane. It was a decent price at the time I wanted to buy one, as I really wanted something that could play The Witcher III at 1440p on pretty much max settings. The GTX 1060 wasn’t good enough for that, and the GTX 1080 was way out of my price range. Even once I’d got the GTX 1070 home, though, I still wasn’t completely happy with it. If I’d had the option to buy something like the instead for the same kind of money, though?
For months, AMD has been hyping how much faster they are than the first RTX cards. The only solution for NVIDIA was a surprise batch of faster cards, which, in turn, led to AMD announcing a price drop at the last minute. The GeForce RTX™ 2060 is powered by the NVIDIA Turing™ architecture, bringing incredible performance and the power of real-time ray tracing and AI to the latest games and to every gamer. The GeForce gtx 1080 8gb packs a slightly cut-down version of the TU106 GPU found inside the RTX 2070. The card has only 20 percent fewer CUDA cores than its bigger brother, but crams in a whopping 33 percent more CUDA cores than its predecessor, the GTX 1060. And extensive tweaks found in Nvidia’s Turing GPU architecture make the RTX 2060’s cores much more capable than the GTX 1060’s, as we’ll see in the benchmarks section.
While Nvidia didn’t share configuration information about the test system, the stated results were generated on the Arras multiplayer map. The $399 RTX 2060 Super is more in line with the previous RTX 2070 spec-wise, instead of the plain 2060. It now has 8GB of RAM, 256 more CUDA cores and a healthy base clock speed bump up to 1,470MHz instead of 1,365MHz. NVIDIA says the 2060 Super is around 15% faster than the 2060, and it almost keeps up with the original 2070. That’s a compelling amount of performance for that price, especially if you don’t mind overclocking to eke out a bit more speed. You’ll find three DisplayPort connections, an HDMI port and USB-C “VirtualLink” on both cards.
Thing is, though, you probably don’t need to spend this kind of money on a 1080p graphics card if all you’re after is something that can do 60fps on high or max settings. That’s pretty impressive considering the gtx 1090‘s GPU also has lower base and boost clock speeds than Nvidia’s GTX 1060 and GTX 1070 families, with its base coming in at just 1365MHz, while its boost tops out at 1680MHz. These numbers may well be slightly higher on other third party cards out there that have been overclocked straight out of the factory, but the fact remains that the RTX 2060 pulls some serious weight in spite of its slower-running GPU. It was a fantastic card when it launched for $249, and it continues to be one now for even less, with some of today’s cheapest 6GB cards going for $240 / £220.
