Last year the all black model – an unlimited, in-production piece – was trading above RRP on the grey market after shops sold out. All the functions can take a bit of time to get used to, but they are otherwise quite straightforward. A clever feature that this watch has is an anti-block function that makes the hands change their position when you press the light mod. This is so you can read the digital screen even if the time is such that the analog hands block it. Not a small watch by any means, but it’s also significantly smaller than many popular G-Shocks, which measure closer to 50mm and have unusual geometry that can make them a tough wear.
Most obviously, there is the resemblance to the famous Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. The CasiOak’s bezel has an octagonal edge that in its proportions and softness unavoidably conjures AP’s icon. Nor can you help but read the Royal Oak’s integrated bracelet into the way that the CasiOak’s strap meets its case. But this G-Shock also has a host of features that tap into broader notions of good taste that prevail within the watch world.

Other than that though each and every perspective, the 2100A has impressed me a lot and I hope you too would be impressed. I’ve not seen any additional straps to buy yet but hey, new stuff! The strap itself feels a little thinner and more rigid than my other resin G-SHOCK and other Casios in general but this may be because it’s new and I’ve not broken it in yet. On the left there is a retrograde style day of the week arc, followed by a two hand central analogue time display. The hands are black with dark grey lumed inners which really do beam a lot of light well after dark, something that truly surprised me. The first one among the thinnest series with a blackish-grey combo is the G-Shock GA A. With a black bezel and band against grey markers this model looks as classy as it should. Created with perfection and uncountable features, the toughness of this model is visible through its construction.
At £99.90, it sits at the least expensive price point across the entire brand. Frankly, for that amount of money, if you want to see what all the fuss is about, it’s almost hard to justify not buying it. The case has a diameter of 45.4mm, a thickness of 18mm, and lug-to-lug of 47mm. With that said, it is a big watch, which doesn’t really come as a surprise for a G-shock.
The GA-2100SU-A1JF is my favorite variation with a screen-printed camouflage pattern on top of the bezel. The Casio G-Shock has historically been a watch that I haven’t been able to connect with. Every G-Shock was polarizing on opposite ends of the spectrum to me. They seemed to be something designed for an operator training course or designed to match a retro pair of Jordan 4s that I’m not interested in.
