dewalt miter saw 169

#1 Dewalt Dw718 Miter Saw Review

I was a union carpenter for 20 years and left the field to start my own commercial construction company. I have allowed my installers to get any tool they feel they need, but no longer will I authorize any purchase of a dewalt tool! I personally bought a DW705 12″ miter saw, from Home Depot, about 4 or 5 years ago to remodel my house and kitchen. I was surprised to find out that it did not come with a material clamp !

It’s all the saw that I need at 67 to do the work now as a hobby. And many do not understand negative reviews about the saw since they dewalt accessories consider it to be one of the best sliders on the market. However, there were some who wanted an improved dust retention system.

When the positioning is done, you can twist the knob again to lock the base and start working with the miter saw. As you can see it pretty much cuts right through the wood, well all most. No big deal as that is a large capacity and you can turn the board over, but did want to note this cut.

Sometimes there are “buy the saw, get a $199 miter saw stand for free” promos. With that change, more base weight would be required to balance the saw in all positions – more weight makes it more expensive to build and less portable. If it resembles the Dewalt, it is because HF hired the same guy who designed the Dewalt to design this Hercules model. Spud, I have reviews on this blog and they are clearly marked as reviews. If it doesn’t say it’s a review, it’s clearly not a review. Tool Craze does not sell this product or any product on the Tool Craze website.

I made a couple more cuts for fun and tested out the mitering and beveling features. The miter markings are etched into the base and very easy to see. Both bevel and miter measurements are indicated with a plastic red marker. The safety switch is integrated into the trigger and I really like the design.

Not surprisingly, they are all highly-rated by end users due to the brand’s reputation in producing durable and quality power tools. You have different options and perhaps you just have to learn each of their features to find which one will work for your particular needs. DeWalt decided to go with a 7-1/4″ blade on their cordless miter saw. 7-1/4″ blades are much easier to get your hands on, have a larger variety available, and are cheaper than the 8-1/2″ blades that other compact miter saws are using. In addition, the slightly smaller blade is also going to be easier on the motor and make the system more efficient. Plus, if I wanted more cutting depth, I’d probably switch to a 12″ compound miter saw.

The batteries were plugged in during lunch break to give them an additional 30 minutes of charge time, but I’m not even sure that was needed. The saw has plenty of power for cutting framing materials including engineered lumber, even when running in the cordless mode. What stands out most about this miter saw is how well it performs in both cordless and corded modes. There is no noticeable difference in performance from one mode to the other, and the saw performs just as we’d expect from experience using our other 12″ dewalt toolss over the years.
