The 2019 bottle I tried yesterday seems to have sorted that out. It was much more of a fresh-pencil-shavings cedar/pine opening and quite pleasant the whole Polo Ralph Lauren t shirt way through. All the nastiness was gone and replaced with a smooth, creamy, earthiness that progressed logically into the drydown that we all know and love.
I hope, for the sake of this legend, that it is better than what has been offered for the previous few years. A traditional man, a loyal man, a good father and a loving husband. I am wearing it today for the first time after almost 4 months and what an awesome fragrance! I am not sure if it is my imagination but it smells much more pleasant that what it did in December. It could be that the contents had to settle or mature in the bottle as is the case with my Aventus and other fragrances.
Bought a travel spray out of a gift set. Right after a shower it’s on point. I think this is what Quorum wants to smell like but is harsher. Distinct scent for a discerning man. My parents just celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary this week and of course he wore Polo when he took mom out to dinner in his best tweed suit.
The drydown is dark – heavy leather with woods and tobacco but still with pine note infused. The opening is quite harsh and reminds me of Paco Rabanne Pour Homme. I get mainly a synthetic pine note that seems to become more natural smelling as the fragrance evolves. While Paco Rabanne Pour Homme turns sweet and musky, Polo stays more green, mossy and earthy, more outdoorsy and crisp. I definitely get some caraway or cumin, and tobacco . But there is also just a hint of sweetness in the background that binds together the green, earthy and spicy notes.
I’m only surprised that according to the pyramid, the pine needle and leather notes are in the mid-section, as I feel as though I get a blast of them instantly. That combination, to my nose, are what this perfume is all about – super-fresh pine modified by a soothing, rich brown leather. I do get the basil and drop of gin in the opening too mind, but overall it’s a leather and pine binge. I would suggest this for the mature man, 40’s and up. You won’t be getting huge compliments, as a matter of fact the opposite. This is a mature man’s scent and should be worn for personal enjoyment.
But it suits an older man best I think, so not quite for me yet. I have always perceived my grandpa as very classy. This is deffo not an everyday perfume. To me it’s a special occasional one. You wear it if you want to celebrate something.

Most likely to people who haven´t ever inhaled British Sterling or Canoe.
