Air frying, which uses powerful hot air, allows you to prepare crispy, delicious fried favorites—from wings to fritters to fries to shrimp—with much less oil. Even a large, four-pound chicken requires only about a teaspoon of oil to fry. Due to the Cuisinart’s large interior, it took this model about five minutes longer to cook frozen french fries than it took some of the smaller air fryers we tested. That said, its slightly slower cooking time often produced more evenly cooked food that was better tasting. We think that’s a trade-off well worth the few extra minutes of your time.
However I wish the air fryer basket and tray underneath were dishwasher safe which would make cleaning them so much easier. Also crumbs have a tendency to fall between the glass door and the crumb tray which makes cleaning it a little more difficult. So far I like the unit very much and use it almost every day. The air fryer basket is difficult to clean, and rather flimsy.
Convection toaster ovens can do everything air fryers can do—and more. As long as you don’t overcook your food, it will be tender and juicy inside. Another feature the Cuisinart has is a fan on the inside that circulates and filters the hot air.

You don’t need to seek out air-fryer recipes to get great results in a convection toaster oven—any recipe written for a conventional oven works. Most crunchy fried foods have some sort of batter or coating on them. Just make sure you use the baking pan and fryer basket together. For best results, lightly spray the fryer basket with a little cooking spray to prevent your food from sticking, and losing all that crunchy coating.
