Nvidia Releases Gtx 1660 Super And Its Good!
The chipmaker has introduced a new driver update that allows users to turn on the feature on Apart from the GTX 1050 and 1050 Ti, all other GPUs now support the feature through DirectX Ray Tracing. In fact, even a $180/£160 GTX GB doesn’t make much sense when for an extra gtx 1090 $40/£40, you’re getting up to 30% more performance. Overall the Super card is between 10 and 13 percent faster than the regular 1660 at 1080p resolution in the games I tested. That’s not too shabby and certainly warrants the “super” moniker as it’s not some measly five percent bump. At 1440p the uplift is largely the same aside from The Witcher 3, which saw a 24 percent bump in performance. In the rest of the titles, performance fell between 10 and 12 percent overall. Though it’s “made for 1080p gaming” it’s also pretty good at 1440p, hitting 60fps in most titles at max settings.
Our Windows 10 installation is the latest available and is fully updated. If RGB lighting is on your list of requirements, you will have to look elsewhere as this card does not have any. All illumination will have to come from your motherboard or other means.
The latest GTX 1660 and 1660 Ti GPUs, which don’t have RT but do have integer cores, will run ray-traced games moderately better than last-gen 10-series GPUs. NVIDIA also announced that Unity and Unreal Engine now support ray-tracing, allowing developers to implement the tech into their games. The RTX 2070 Super replaces the RTX 2070 in Nvidia’s line-up of ray-tracing high performance GPUs, yielding around a 10% performance improvement at the same $500 USD price point. The 2070 Super has been upgraded to use the same GPU die as in the RTX 2080, and now has 2560 CUDA cores, up from 2304 in the 2070. 1660 ti feels overpriced now without an included game to justify it.
The PCB used on this card is longer than the ASUS offering, as you’ll see in a moment, but the Gigabyte GeForce gtx 1080 8gb 6GB OC is thinner. This card requires only two slots, while the ASUS card is 2.7 slots wide. Meanwhile, as I mentioned towards the start of this article, while NVIDIA is launching the new GTX 1660 Super card today, they are not going to be retiring any of their other cards in its wake. Here are the gaming performance results for the EVGA GTX 1660 Super SC Ultra. Most of the other cards are reference clocked models, though the RTX 2070, 2080, and 2080 Ti are Founders Edition cards that also have a 90MHz factory overclock.
