Asus Tuf Gaming Geforce Gtx 1660 Super Oc 6gb Ddr6 Video Card
TUF Gaming products and TUF Gaming Alliance PC components from our partners are designed with a unified aesthetic and subjected to extra tests to ensure compatibility. The TUF Gaming 1660 has been thoroughly tested with TUF gaming motherboards and the latest AAA games to ensure a seamless plug-and-play experience. w/8Gbps GDDR5$219The wildcard factor here, as is often the case, is AMD. However it’s not clear just what to expect from the cards in terms of performance, especially as AMD has been framing it relative to NVIDIA’s lower-end GTX 1650. So while at face value, the GTX 1660 Super seems like an NVIDIA counter to AMD’s impending launch, outside of the AMD and NVIDIA testing labs, it’s remains to be seen where things end up.
However, due to its inflated price tag it’s just too close to Ti territory to make it a must-buy. As far as the GPU itself goes, it shares a lot of the same features as the gtx 1090 Ti, just trimmed down a smidge to hit a lower price point. The main differences between the 1660 and the Ti version are pretty apparent; less CUDA cores, and slower memory, but they both have the same 120w TDP and run at roughly the same clock speeds. Considering it costs about $100 less, that’s not too shabby of a tradeoff really.
This reduces thermal strain on components and avoids the use of harsh cleaning chemicals, resulting in less environmental impact, lower manufacturing power consumption, and a more reliable product overall. It’s easy to clean the blades, but taking the housing apart to remove dust that has made its way inside is not a simple task. The latest TUF recruit simplifies maintenance by utilizing high-quality IP5X certified dust resistant fans that prevent performance degradation over time by keeping particles out.
At time of writing, Nvidia have yet to confirm whether the gigabyte gtx 1060 3gb is getting any kind of bundle deal, but given there’s currently no bundle deal attached to the GTX 1660 Ti, I think it’s unlikely the GTX 1660 will get anything either. The RX 580, meanwhile, lets you choose from two of those games, which together with its slightly lower price may be enough to offset its closer to GTX 1060-levels of performance. From a pure performance point of view, the GTX 1660 is the superior card in this respect, offering pretty much identical if not slightly faster speeds at 1080p and 1440p to the RX 590. We saw a little bit of that in games like Project Cars 2, Prey and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. But we also saw a lot of gains in the vicinity of 7-13%, which is how we arrived at a 10% improvement on average. There were even a few titles such as The Witcher 3, For Honor and Monster Hunter World which saw gains in the 18 to 25% range.
I saw a similar 10fps boost in Shadow of the Tomb Raider as well, with the managing an average of 51fps on Highest with its less demanding SMAA anti-aliasing enabled over the GTX 1060’s 40fps. When we first saw the specifications for the GTX 1660 Super, we didn’t know what to make of it. The 75% increase in memory bandwidth is huge, but ultimately if the GPU wasn’t memory starved to begin with, that would just end up being a big number on paper that wouldn’t translate into meaningful gains in the real world. Kingdom Come Deliverance has the 1660 Super performing very well again, beating the base model by a 9% margin to come in just 3 fps behind the 1660 Ti. That was until later in the year when the Radeon RX 590 dropped from around $300 to nearly $200. By slashing prices AMD has managed to remain relevant in the budget and mainstream GPU market with their older RX 500 series GPUs, and in fact managed to become the go to option below $200.
