I remember my lead carpenter at the time saying “let the weight of the saw do the work for you” as he instructed me to rest the 2×4 stud on my foot and let the saw “fall” through the cut. Months later, after saving a small portion of each paycheck, I bought my first battery operated circular saw. It was lightweight and powerful enough to accomplish most remodeling tasks. While a saw’s available RPMs are a good indication of how fast a cut can be made, they don’t impact how thick of a material the saw can cut. Some models even come with indented marks, known as positive stops, that let users lock into popular bevel cuts for easy adjustments. Are you using a simple L-bend allen key or a ratchet and socket? The amount and quality of force you can apply depends greatly on using the right tool. While some might view this as an overall detraction, I actually think it gives the tool a more stable feel. The tool feels well balanced and less susceptible to subtle wrist movements that can affect the quality of a straight cut.
