The blade sits off to the right side of the tool while both grips sit off to the left as you’re holding it. This means that neither hand has to reach over the top of the tool to secure with the auxiliary grip. With the 6.0Ah FLEXVOLT Battery installed, the tool weighs in at over 10 lbs .
The saw also weighs in at only a little over 10 pounds, thanks to the use of lightweight magnesium on the shoe, blade guard, and other components. The retractable blade guard is unfortunately clunky and tends to hang up when you start cutting. To compensate for this, you can use your free hand to hold the guard back a bit, but that’s no easy feat if you’re not working on a bench or set of sawhorses. I’ve got to say that I am really pleasantly surprised by this tool. Not only does it feel and look good, but its performance is outstanding. The power of the tool allows for incredibly easy cuts without binding or slowing down.
One feature that could use improvement is the markings for the depth of cut are difficult to read without any contrasting font, especially when sawdust builds up. A nice improvement would be to add indexing notches to improve the ease and efficiency of switching the depth of cut. While circular saws are traditionally used to cut 2x4s, plywood, and other lumber, they can be outfitted with different blades to cut masonry, metal, and other materials. Along with a blade’s size, the blade type also influences a circular saw’s performance. For example, most of the circular saws in this review come with wood-cutting blades that have a low number of teeth per inch .
While a saw’s available RPMs are a good indication of how fast a cut can be made, they don’t impact how thick of a material the saw can cut. Some circular saws adjust to make cuts at various angles, which are referred to as beveled cuts. Most circular saws with bevel adjustments can tilt between 0 and 55 degrees. Some models even come with indented marks, known as positive stops, that let users lock into popular bevel cuts for easy adjustments. For example, the CRAFTSMAN 15-Amp Circular Saw has positive stops at 22.5 and 45 degrees.
It’s also a great project to do with this little mischief maker in your life. Secure the drill so it doesnt move if you can while doing this.
