Casio G

It is available in numerous colors, several styles and even in some collectible limited editions, such as G-Shock x Sankuanz, G-Shock x Stash Graffiti-Style and G-Shock x Futura Graffiti Limited Edition. With the launch of its first watch in 1974, Casio entered the wristwatch market at a time when the watch industry had just discovered digital technology. As a company with cutting-edge electronic technology developed for pocket calculators, Casio entered this field confident that it could develop timepieces that would lead the market. Casio released the G-Shock in April 1983, to fill the demand for durable watches. In order to promote the G-Shock worldwide, the American division of Casio released a commercial in which an ice hockey player used the DW-5000C as a hockey puck to demonstrate the toughness of the watch.

As far as making the GSW-H1000 a true G-Shock smartwatch goes, Casio has fulfilled the brief perfectly. However, by rigidly sticking to the obvious remit, problems for a wider audience are introduced, starting with the size. It’s massive, and I say this as someone baby g shock who likes G-Shock’s larger watches. The case measures 65mm by 56mm, and is 19.5mm thick, with a total weight of 104 grams. The shock-resistant sports watch gets attention with a flash alert and includes a moon and tide graph for watersports enthusiasts.

It comes equipped with a 1.2-inch capacitive touchscreen dual-layer display — a colour TFT LCD and a monochrome LCD. The monochrome display come with always-on function to show time, while the colour LCD shows maps, notifications, sensor data, and other information. There are three models available, the H seen here in our photos with blue accent colors, the H1000-1A without the blue, and the brighter H A4 with a red strap and accents.

These newish additions to the lineup are all about tracking your workouts, whether they’re elaborate interval programs or simply a series of steps. The colorways are intended to make them more wearable with everyday clothes, encouraging you to keep it on and keep fit. Styled just like the originals, but now with full metal construction, including bracelets on some models.

These models were the very first G-Shock watches to have a countdown timer. Many of these models came equipped with a pair of strap adapters and a single one-piece resin or nylon band. These styles of band are also known as “crossband” in the Japanese domestic market. Resin bands for these models had open gaps or slits through the band. Casio refers to them as drainage slits; the idea is that water will drain out with no problems while in action when surfing.
