It would be nice to have a bare tool option, but considering you need an 8.0Ah battery for the best performance, we can understand why it’s only in a kit right now. We are HUGE fans of DeWalt’s FlexVolt grinder handle. The Power Detect goes dewalt tools with a more traditional barrel grip. It’s agreeably slim and the paddle switch gives us plenty of gripping options. The cutting and grinding were confident, but clearly well short of the power we got from the Gen 2 FlexVolt grinder.
Being able to direct your sparks and residual chips is important, and this guard does a fine job. Also, this model sports a 4.5in wheel, the general standard that is perfect for almost any application. Additionally this grinder runs on DeWalts 20V battery platform. DeWalt has done it yet again within their 20v MAX line. The DCG413B delivers to any user that is used to a corded grinder, without the hassle of a power cord. The build quality, performance, ergonomics, and overall fit and finish is impressive for a very low cost in comparison to its competitors.
For homeowners who don’t want to disturb others with a noisy machine, you don’t really need more power than this. The Dremel is also a bit more powerful than the AA-powered grinders we tested, which makes for quicker work, but also causes nails to heat up more quickly. So pay close attention to how your pet is reacting, and be ready to back off if the nail is getting unduly hot.
Smaller size if you only want to use 4-1/2″ accessories, works with more affordable 20V Max batteries. It’s available as a bare tool, dewalt accessories in a kit, and in a 2x 6.0Ah battery with bonus battery kit. I’m used to spanner wrenches which engage in two holes of an arbor nut.
When grinding down the welds we couldn’t keep up charging the batteries. I had 2amp/hr x 2 and 3amp/hr x 1 @ 60v and 5amp/hr x 4 @20v. I had one yellow fast charger and 2 of the 4amps /hr slower chargers. With a few more fast chargers I think we may have been able to keep up.
Some dog owners might also appreciate that it comes with a plastic sheath that fits around the grinding bit to catch the dust from your dog’s nails. In testing, we preferred to remove the sheath for maximum maneuverability, but if your dog sits still, the tidiness it provides is a solid bonus. After testing six options, we like the Dremel 7300-PT 4.8V Pet Nail Grooming Tool because it is safe, cordless, and quiet, and lets you swap out grinding and polishing tips as needed. I was able to clean up my mower deck with a wire cub brush so we could prep it for repainting. Even bearing down on the tool it handled the wire brush with no problem. It’s comfortable to use even though I find the paddle safety lever a bit finicky.
Loosening it might still require the hex wrench, though. I’m not a very frequent grinder, and so the arbor nut stood out to me, more so than I can comment about its runtime or power .
