You’ll have to purchase a better thermal solution for any chance at realizing Core i7-8700’s highest Turbo Boost frequencies. Max turbo frequency is the maximum single core frequency at which the processor is capable of operating using Intel® Turbo Boost Technology and, if present, Intel® Thermal Velocity Boost. Frequency is typically measured in gigahertz , or billion cycles per second. But again, it does feature the same complement of six cores, 12MB of L3 cache, and DDR capable memory controller. Like all of Intel’s Core i7, i5, and i3 models, the i comes with an integrated UHD Graphics 630 engine that gives Intel a leg up over competing Ryzen 7 and 5 processors without any on-die graphics. Great benchmark results and an attractive price also put Core i up against AMD’s revamped Ryzen 7 line-up.
Both of these processors use 256 KB of L2 cache per core and 2 MB of L3 cache per core. Basic microprocessor parameters such as number of cores, number of threads, base frequency and turbo boost clock, lithography, cache size and multiplier lock state. These parameters can generally indicate CPU performance, but to be more precise you have to review its test results. The Core i is a 65W CPU, with 6 cores, 12 threads, 12MB of cache, and a max turbo frequency of 4.6GHz.
It arrived when specified after ordering and I am now using it in my newly built system. I’m sure that a later generation system would perform faster, but for my uses, I doubt that I would notice the difference. The thing that I recommend is to install a better fan than the included Intel fan.
This build is a beast for content production, streaming, or overkill 4K gaming. That jump in core count means major improvements to performance, which means new possibilities the workloads we can expect from a new PC build. If you can manage to find one of these new i7 chips your local store or online, let’s have a look at what you’ll be able to build with them.

A small form factor allows more transistors to fit on a chip, therefore increasing its performance. Small real-world performance difference compared to Core i7-8700K, Lower price than the -8700K. The 8th Generation Intel® Core™ processors are raising the bar of desktop computing with innovations to drive exciting experiences, capabilities, and form factors. Experience all the amazing things you and a new 8th Generation Intel® Core™ processor-powered PC can do. Outstanding gaming experiences extend beyond your personal smooth gameplay to your entire gaming community. The 8th Generation Intel® Core™ processor family makes it easy to share those experiences by live-streaming or recording, editing, and posting your epic highlights.
This chip supports up to 64 GiB of dual-channel DDR memory and incorporates Intel’s UHD Graphics 630 IGP operating at 350 MHz with a burst frequency of 1.2 GHz. You see, Intel’s thermal design power specification applies to the CPU’s base frequency. But its processors exceed that rating when they jump to higher Turbo Boost bins. We found that the Core i can overwhelm Intel’s bundled heat sink and fan during certain heavily-threaded workloads, negatively affecting performance.
