DeWalt hand tools are designed to withstand the toughest jobsite conditions and are engineered to deliver the same standard of excellence as their power tools. They have also committed to making several of their tools in the US. Through that initiative, DeWalt makes 32 hand tools, 48 power tools, and 562 types of accessories in the United States with domestic and global materials. 13,000ParentStanley Black & DeckerWebsite (stylized as DᴇWALT) Industrial Tool Company is an American worldwide manufacturer of power tools and hand tools for the construction, manufacturing and woodworking industries. DeWalt is a registered trademark of Black & Decker (U.S.) Inc., a subsidiary of Stanley Black & Decker.
In a market survey of the United States done by Black & Decker before its reintroduction, the name DeWalt was recognized by 70% percent of tradespersons. DeWalt is now a popular brand of tools for commercial contractors. In 2004, Black and Decker bought rival power tool manufacturer Porter-Cable and combined it with DeWalt in Jackson, Tennessee. In 2011, DeWalt launched a line of contractors’ hand tools . In 2013, the line was expanded to include mechanics’ tools . DeWalt hand tools are designed to withstand the toughest jobsite conditions and are engineered to deliver the same standard of excellence as DeWalt power tools.
If that’s the case then we have reason to think they’ll do very well in the market. My longest lived and most loved power tools are from them. But that being said, their hand tools suck. They’re bargain brand quality at DeWalt prices. There’s tons of energy spent making them look cool and “industrial designy” but little substance. DEWALT has taken its Guaranteed Tough philosophy of power tools and expanded it to storage.
Black & Decker found it useful to relinquish a name with little appeal to many consumers in the market for construction tools. In wrenches you want combination wrenches unless you have some special needs. It’s more expensive but get ratcheting box ends now and thank me later.
Well, today DeWalt just dropped the hammer and released a small line of brand new tools to market that includes over 100 new products. The list includes razor knives, adjustable pliers, wrenches, tape measures, various hammers, hand saws and even toolboxes. If you like your yellow-and-black, you just got an opportunity to add a whole lot more color to your tool arsenal. The only remaining question is whether or not these tools will be manufactured to the same standard of quality as the company’s power tools. In our experience it could go either way – but if they are going to longevity then we would like to think they did some serious front-end design work before China took over the manufacturing process.
Buying a quality power tool is an investment, and you should prioritize durability over cost, as long as the tool is within your budget. Overall, I would opt for DeWalt over Craftsman power tools whether using them for DIY purposes or as a professional contractor. While you might end up paying a little more, chances are also that your tools will last longer. Both Craftsman and DeWalt offer robust and high-quality tools. DeWalt has a large catalog of 20V power tools and has shifted its focus away from lower-powered and consumer-oriented 12V tools.

In terms of tool boxes/bags I do electrical work so I have the electrician open top 12×12 bag. Fully loaded it’s almost uncomfortable to carry. I have one strictly for my 1” to 2” wrenches. The sockets all fit in two Dewalt medium Toughsystem boxes.
The various tools are made by various companies and HD occasionally rotates manufacturers. So it’s a bit of a crap shoot but usually similar to the Craftsman brand but positioned to siphon off a few dollars of SBD royalty money.
