The Dremel’s triangular sanding pad came in quite handy for sanding the Whitehall. With a bit of Velcro, a worn-out saw blade also makes a good sanding tool. The teeth of wood-cutting blades can get dulled quickly by some materials; a dull blade will cut slowly and may even begin to smoke. Ridge Carbide makes a blade sharpener that is a stack of fifteen 3″ metal-cutting discs, separated by 1/16″ rubber washers on a 3/8″ arbor.

You may be able to control the speed with some magical power but I have now such thing at my disposal so i consider this a two speed tool, off and on. I sort of think the tool landed in the hands of the marketing team at DeWalt and they said “hey look, when you pull the trigger a little it goes slower! ” It’s a fact that it’s speed changes depending on how much you pull the trigger but there is no way to control it unless you’re just sitting at a table somewhere holding it. Otherwise it does what I bought it to do, oscillate back and forth while holding an accessory. The multi-tool has long been a staple in my arsenal but this brushless Dewalt model takes it up a notch.

It allows the user to change blades and attachments quickly without tools or small, loose pins to worry about. This tool directly competes with the Bosch accessory lever. The DEWALT DCS355D1 measures 12” long and weighs 3.22 pounds with the battery. The tool is variable speed and operates dewalt Hand tools at 0-20,000 opm (oscillations/min) and best of all has, in my opinion, the fastest accessory change system out there. This tool has corded power in a cordless tool – impressive. A super bright LED comes on when the trigger is activated and stay on an additional 20 seconds.

After using a corded oscillating tool for years with no light and a bolt on blade, I got to use one of these that a friend had. Already owning other 20volt Dewalt tools, batteries and a charger made it a great choice. It is also well balanced and much quieter than my old corded model.

We tested their power by cutting hardwood, softwood, and wood with nails embedded in it. In one instance, the Dremel, we tested a previous version but haven’t gotten the new one in hand yet, so we’ll update that review with impressions once we do.
